Creating a Template for Architectural Drawings

You will receive instruction IN CLASS but this will serve as a reference guide for setting up a template.

OPEN an acad template. Set units to Architecture.


Set limits to (0,0) for the lower corner [enter] 60’ [tab] 40’
Open dimension style manager, create NEW (annotative)
Name your new style ARCH
In the “symbols and arrows” tab change arrowheads to oblique
In the “text” tab change to annotative. Change font to city blue print (set current)

Text placement: above – vertical


aligned – dimension line
Text color: white, Text height: 1/8” (no color fill)
arrowhead size 1/8”

Primary units: arch 1/16”


Make sure the new style you just created is selected and pick “set current”

CREATE LAYERS (From layers property manager)


create the following layers:
NAME COLOR LINETYPE
wall white continuous
text white continuous
dimension red continuous
furniture any color continuous
electrical blue hidden
foundation white continuous
fixtures any color continuous
hidden white continuous

Create multilines for drawing your walls:


Type MLSTYLE select new
new style name: OSW (for outside wall) offset: 1st line +3
2nd line -3
new style name: ISW (for inside wall) offset: 1st line +2
2nd line -2
new style name: foundation offset: 1st line +18 (hidden linetype)
*add layer twice 2nd line +12
3rd line 0
4th line -6 (hidden linetype)
new style name: foundationb offset 1st line +14 (hidden linetype)
*start with previous 2nd line +8
foundation 3rd line 0
*add 1 layer 4th line -4
**this one is for a brick foundation** 5th line -10

SAVE this as a template file! MAKE SURE .dwt is selected in the file type when you save this to your
TEMPLATE folder.

NAME this 1-Arch-yourname.dwt
