About the Company

"Together We Can"

Centre for Social Action (CSA) is a 'Students Movement for a Humane and Just Society' where
student communities are sensitized on various issues affecting the poor and the marginalized
sections of society. Established in 1999 CSA works towards promoting the value of Social
Responsibility amongst the student community. With the support of volunteers, faculty, and
full-time development professionals, CSA is strongly engaged in addressing issues related to
child rights, socio-economic development of women, youths and farmers, livelihood,
community mobilization, and environment/climate change issues.

As an international organization working in diverse sectors with an end goal of development,

peace, and equality, the UN has become the forum to address severe universal issues. To
achieve these goals, the 2030 Agenda for sustainable development is prescribed by the UN.
The agenda is an action plan that envisages strengthening universal peace by eradicating
poverty in all possible forms.

The UN aims to carry out programs in partnership and collaboration with stakeholders from its
member nations. And in this regard, CHRIST University has taken up the initiative to embark
on completing the SDG goals.

There are 17 Sustainable Development Goals that constitute the Universal Agenda 2030. They
are built upon the basics of Millenium Development Goals and seek to achieve gender equality,
human rights, peace, women empowerment, end to poverty, and sustainable development.

The Center for Social Action (CSA), CHRIST University have partnered with the UN in terms
of two initiatives: UNAI and UNDP (SDG 2030 Goals). The partnership was declared and
celebrated along with the 75th anniversary of the UN on 24th October.
Main Initiatives Taken By CSA

The Center for Social Action (CSA), CHRIST University in alignment with its initiatives to
achieve Agenda 2030 SDGs has partnered with the UN. Under this collaboration, CSA aims to
lead the institution of CHRIST and its different departments to contribute to sustainable
development. The two programs that are the results of this collaboration are the UN Academic
Impact program and the initiatives undertaken through the UN Development Programme. CSA
aims to ensure that the institution of CHRIST undertakes UN initiatives to make this
partnership fruitful.

Centre for Social Action (CSA) is the development wing of CHRIST (Deemed to be
University). It was set up in 1999 to coordinate social sensitization programmes for students
and undertake community development projects for marginalized communities. It is a students’
movement for a humane and just society with children as the primary focus. CSA addresses
issues related to child rights, socio-economic development of women, youths and farmers,
community mobilization and environment/climate change issues.

As part of CHRIST (Deemed to be University), CSA primarily focuses on student communities

and their sensitization on various issues affecting the poor and marginalized sections of the
society. This is undertaken so as to facilitate sustainable changes in the lives of the poor and
the oppressed through active participation of the student community and equip the students
with ideals and values for effective contributions to the society. CSA was initiated with the
intention of enabling the student community to imbibe the values of social responsibility, as
envisaged in the core values, vision and the mission of CHRIST (Deemed to be University).

CSA believes in strengthening the student community with a view to enable positive changes
in society. This is one of the driving forces for the establishment of CSA and remains as the
motivating factor for undertaking various developmental projects and social sensitization
programmes. CSA intends to create a community of empathetic students who can work
proactively for society.

Every year,CSA selects student leaders through a unque selection process. These student
leaders of different wings and projects facilitate activities of the next academic session. The
wing leaders welcome the next batch of the year volunteers and conduct activities to
accomadate them in to the family. Throughout the year, wing leaders facilitate activities in
accordanance with wings' objectives and in collaboration with other wings as well.

Community Development

CSA has facilitated an array of development programs in rural, urban and tribal areas of
different states. CSA facilitates developmental activities in various sectors like health,
education, social/community development, empowering community-based organizations
(CBOs), land development, agricultural development. CSA aims to empower communities by
empowering women to be socially, politically, economically active, and independent. The
organization functions in the states of Karnataka, Maharashtra, Kerala, Telangana, and
Chhattisgarh. The quality of life rendered to the women, children, and the community has
brought notable and immeasurable positive changes.

Activities Undertaken

The Centre for Social Action is the development-action wing of CHRIST (Deemed to be
University). Operating on the principles of Sensitisation, Awareness, and Empathy, the
volunteer body is one of the 5 pillars of CSA. As a volunteer body I operated 4 wings, These
were the wings Centres; Drishti, Prayatna, Media and Communication and Project Matram
where I worked.

Task 1: Activity Centers

The Activity Center focuses on the entire growth of the kids in the project areas. The children
in this project regions benefit from the assistance of AC volunteers by participating in more
engaging and educational after-school programmes like, teaching them the vocational skills
like Book Keeping, Problem Solving, Design and many more.

Task 2: Drishti

Drishti is a branch of the organisation that works to affect through sensitising individuals via
visual and aural art. In Drishti we use theatre, particularly street theatre, to raise awareness.
The fact that Drishti is a non-competitive team that is just concerned with performing for a
cause sets them apart from other theatre groups.

One of the theater events was on Women Self Defense for which I was the POC and
manage the people in the particular area/village.

Task 3: Prayatna

Prayatna, meaning effort, is an effort towards a more sustainable world. For this initiative we
managed to get 150+ Volunteers who were engaged in nature walks, clean-up drives, visits to
animal shelters, and various other campaigns. Further, they are actively involved in the
Parivarthana Unit- the waste-management unit on campus.

Task 4: Media and Communication

In Media and Communication wing we aim to sensitize people about various social issues
through tools of media. The wing is also involved in the documentation of all events and
promotes the organization’s work through the medium of visual and verbal communication
which are writing, photography, and videography. Me as core member of the media as a core
person in this wing, we also promote CSA, awareness creatives and its activities inside and
outside Christ University.

Swachh Bharath

Everyone is accountable for keeping oneself and their environment sanitary and tidy.
Additionally, it promotes optimistic thinking, which delays the onset of illnesses.

We organized Students from the nearby villages and organised a demonstration to support the
Swachh Bharat programme. "Ham SB ka aek nara- saaf sutra des hamara," "Sathi re hath
batana- gandki ko he dur bhagan," and "apni mitti apna des- swachh bharat swasth bharat" are
some of the slogans used to generate mass awareness.

Activities related to Shramdan have also been conducted across the streets of Madodhar village.
Students have urged locals to participate in swachhta activities. They have shown their
commitment and enthusiasm to maintain a clean environment by taking part in shramdan
activities.

The Swachh Bharat Abhiyan is the government of India's most important cleaning initiative.
Community members were urged to keep their surroundings clean since it was the obligation
of all residents to do so. This was a step toward cleanliness that the kids from the adjacent
communities took.

Results Achieved

- Less than half of companies have a defined social media policy for their company, and only
roughly a quarter of them have specific targets. - Social media analytics have not been used by
anybody. They lack strategic thought, long-term planning, and vision. Many NGOs focus their
efforts on winning the next election rather than resolving the issues facing the people they
profess to represent. The mass media and the methods in which they interact with the public
have an impact on society today. Many individuals, however, are resistant to this influence
because they believe it is unfair for the media to have such a big effect on society. For instance,
many individuals are now less inclined to use social media because they believe it to be overly
deceptive and unreliable as a reflection of the person. That suggests a lack of effective media
coordination. Time, however, would not be adequate for the task since we would need to put
in a lot of effort into campaigns, inspiring people, and assisting them in learning about the
current situation. The use of social media has made maintaining global connections simpler
than ever. It's critical to keep in mind that social media interactions are two-way streets. You
can't simply publish and hope that others would follow you back. You must take the initiative
and interact with your supporters. However, those who work for the organisation are not like
that; they always have expectations.

Disseminating information about the issues and raising awareness. The need for skilled workers The
best way to deal with people is not with anger; rather, we should deal with them neatly and respond to
them in a polite manner. Showing anger in return is not the solution, and we should keep that in mind.
Raise public awareness of the organisation, foster public trust in it, and obtain donations from the public.
We encounter many people on social media who spread inaccurate information about the organisation
and seek to harm its reputation; as a result, we should ignore them and focus on our work instead. Social
media has emerged as an important platform for people to connect with one another and spread
awareness for causes that are important to them. Reaching out to and establishing connections with
donors and supporters on social media requires caution. People may be reluctant to provide their
personal information to strangers because they are sensitive about it. It's crucial to keep in mind that
even if you are merely conversing with individuals in your network, they may not want to give you
access to their private information. Therefore, whenever you make a mistake at work, don't feel bad
about it because mistakes are common when someone is new to the work or the job. Instead of taking
it personally, leave it be; if you want to correct it, ask the supervisor who is in charge at the time; he or
she may be able to help you; there is no need to take this issue personally. I want to convey this to the
populace.

Key Learnings
I gained knowledge while working for this NGO, such as time management and social concerns. I was
able to connect with a lot of individuals and expand my network. For me, it was a fantastic day. I had
fun spending the day with the kids. My level of self-assurance, self-worth, and life pleasure increased.
I developed a feeling of purpose, met some lifetime friends, and discovered a new family as a volunteer.
I've had the chance to serve others and develop myself via volunteering. It may be tough and gratifying
to intern at a non-governmental group. It improves professional abilities and imparts knowledge about
your surroundings. It's important to be kind to yourself and not giving up too quickly. Additionally,
even though it is not always simple, it is crucial to be enthused about the task you are performing. - It's
great to work for a non-governmental group. You get to assist those in need and you have global impact.
Working for an NGO teaches you to think critically and creatively outside the box. NGO employment
comes in a variety of unique forms. You might become a teacher or tutor if you have prior experience
dealing with kids. You might become a veterinarian or an animal carer if you have previous experience
dealing with animals. You might become a caregiver or volunteer at the hospital if you have previous
experience dealing with the elderly. Many individuals believe that working for a non-governmental
organisation (NGO) would instil humility in them. That is untrue. An NGO is a way of life that teaches
humility rather than being a profession that does. Because it is a way of life that is not for the rich, an
NGO will educate you to be humble. It's a way of life that enables you to contribute to society and
change things for the better. People often have a gloomy outlook on their lives, but the more positive
you feel about yourself, the more optimistic you are going to be about your life and your future.
Positivity is the secret to feeling good about oneself. Being content with what you have motivates you
to seek out methods to enhance your life. You learn something new every day, and every day teaches
you something valuable. And I'm really appreciative to be employed at Christ University's Center for
Social Action.
