My name is Kezia Grace Tanaya, you can call me Kezia.

I am a 15 year old female and I am a student

of Tunas Daud highschool. I want to get the scholarship of this university, Padjadjaran University and
take psychology as my major. My childhood was pretty basic like any other normal kid. But,
everything changed when my dad got sick.

So, two years ago my dad got stroke. It happened at 5 in the morning when my dad was about to
go to the bathroom. He got out of bed and when he was walking, he suddenly dropped to the
ground. But luckily, my mom is a light sleeper and she was barely fast enough to grab my dad’s
shoulder so that his head didn’t hit the ground. My mom then put my dad on the bed and waited.
My dad just sat there staring blankly, at nothing. She asked him if he was okay and asked him to lay
down on the bed to sleep again. He didn’t respond.

My mom got a little panicked and called for my grandma, she then went to my parents’ room and
prayed for my dad. Then they waited until it’s 8 a.m. My mom woke me and my brother up from our
sleep and told us everything that happened at 5 in the morning. We went down stairs and I saw my
dad sitting on the bed and saw that half of of his body (the right one) was kinda limp but also stiff.
My mom and grandma suspected it was stroke and brought him to the hospital meanwhile me and
my brother stayed at home convincing ourselves that everything is going to be okay. We didn’t even
go to school because we were so stressed that something happened to our dad. At the hospital my
dad is diagnosed with light stroke and it damaged his left brain, that’s why his right body is stiff and
he couldn’t move it (it’s the opposite, if it damaged his right brain, his left body would be stiff).

After that, my dad was hospitalized. My mom stayed at the hospital and we visited him everyday.
His stroke was getting better and better. After four days being hospitalized, his doctor was confused
why we was healing so fast because normally a patient with stroke would have to be treated in a
hospital for months. But my dad, after four days he can already move his right body and even
walked, all thanks to God’s miracle. When my dad went home we were so happy for him. A few
months passed by and he got his second stroke.

This happened a little under a year ago. This time my dad’s stroke is far worst, and it has been
almost a year and he still is not healed. He is not hospitalized, but he is staying at home and me, my
brother and mostly my mom have been the one taken care of him. I don’t know how long this is
going to go, but I’ll just have to go with the flow. It his honestly tiring. I’m exhausted. But, I still love
my dad even though he disappointed me of something that I cannot tell you.

So I am asking for this scholarship because I want to make my parents proud. I know I can’t help a
lot for my dad, but I want to help to make him proud. I chose this university and decided psychology
will be my major because I want to help people with mental health problems. My family have been
pretty depressed about everything and I want to help them and other people. I cannot help
everyone fix their problems, but I can have a conversation and help them get better by listening to
their story and comforting them.
