three formal reflection sessions with your supervisor: The first formal reflection session should focus on your initial ideas and
how you plan to undertake your research; the interim reflection session is once a significant amount of your research has been

and then the final viva voce. Other check-in sessions are permitted but do not need to be recorded on this sheet. After each

First reflection session

Candidate comments:
I´m doing my extended essay in the subject of English in the category C of literature, the book that I´m analyzing is “The silence of the Lambs”
by Thomas Harris; the focus of my research is the identity regarding to masculinity, femininity and problems of sexual orientation. I decided to
divide my extended essay in two chapters, the first is about all the context of the author and his ideas, and the second is about the analysis of
the book to demonstrate the opposite characters as a representation of the concepts: masculinity and femininity. I consider that I have a good
number of sources that I believe are my strengths, but the witnesses were the different perspectives of different authors, however this is an
opportunity to demonstrate the real purpose of the book. Finally, I´m satisfied with my research and with the methodology and process of the
research.

Interim reflection
Candidate comments:
Actually I´m doing the last part “conclusion”, also I´m improving arguments´ order and structure. There were a lot of difficulties, such as the
division of content in each chapter, the coherent connection of the main ideas, its quotes to support and the explanation, to overcome it I use
a notebook to put in order quotes, ideas, analysis of the novel, etc. To do my research original, I use many kinds of sources in order to
mention a lot of perspectives about the theme, since it is controversial to the society, moreover my opinion also was express. Since
beginning my research question has been changed, regarding to the work´s focus, so now my research question is clear. To support my
reason arguments not only I use quotes of many authors, but also, I applicate extracts of the novel. Finally, I asses my research critically,
since I touch a sensible topic of the actual society.

Final reflection - Viva voce

Candidate comments:
In the moment I´m finishing my extended essay, I awareness that the introduction has the relevance of aims, research question even the
methodology that I used. Around all the research I used a lot of vocabulary contextualized to the theme that is developed, also some
idiomatic expressions to define characters. I consider that an important aspect is the organization regarding to reasoned argument, because
to develop an idea I need to support it and reflect about it, so keep a plan and organization about how I will structure my arguments was very
important to my research. Through my research I learned a lot about transgender people, and even I can say that my perspective about it has
changed, since in the beginning of this investigation I was against to this people, but now I know how they feeling and I know that to opinion
something I need to be very informed about it, this really develop open mined in me. I guess that nowadays the reality of the book is promote
more and people need to change the way of thinking in order to provide to transgender people a good environment where live.
