Why Calling the Manager Won’t Change Anything

I introduce you to this name; Karen. The word Karen may be familiar to you and it may be
because this is your aunt’s name, or maybe because of your daily dose of Reddit memes or a Youtube
compilation of “Funny Tiktok moments”. Let’s assume you knew this name because of the internet and
its memes. We all know general characteristics of a Karen: attention seeking, somehow always furious,
overly sensitive, and most importantly, they always ask to talk with the manager. Now, the title of this
essay finally makes sense. I wanted to make this essay to tell these “Karens” that calling the manager
won’t change anything.

The reason of Karens calling the manager may be just a small problem that can be fixed easily if
they wouldn’t make such a big fuss about it. Talking with the manager just because of a small problem is
a waste of their time and they should’ve used this time to handle more important matters. Imagine
being a manager of a small local grocery store in your town, and this woman without a mask comes up
to you and says your workers are “super rude” to tell her to get out of the store, but we all know it is
highly important to wear a mask when you go out, but she throws a tantrum and threatens you that she
will call her lawyer because you are “violating her rights”. In the manager’s point of view it will be a very
difficult matter and hard to handle. A complaining Karen will just add to the manager’s current stress.

Karens wouldn’t need to talk to the manager if there are employees who can handle the
problem correctly and the aftermath wouldn’t change if for example the “Karen” asked to talk to the
manager. If there are enough employees to handle your problem, you really won’t need to talk to the
manager. A message for the Karens that are reading this, please stop making such a big problem out of a
small one and stop calling the manager because that wouldn’t change anything, and for those who
aren’t Karens, don’t be like them.
