Sex-Influenced

Science | Biology
Good Day!

We are from Group 6 and our

topic is Sex-Influenced.
SEX-INFLUENCED
Definition

Sex-controlled character, also called Sex-influenced Character, a genetically

controlled feature that may appear in organisms of both sexes but is expressed
to a different degree in each
Sex-influenced traits are autosomal traits that are influenced by sex.
The alleles seems to act as a dominant in one sex and a recessive in the other.
SEX-INFLUENCED
Definition

The genes for sex-influenced traits are on the autosomes not the sex
chromosomes.
Sex-influenced traits are influenced by both genes and hormones
Testosterone is responsible for the phenotypic expression of the different
alleles. In males, the testosterone causes the allele for baldness to be dominant
over the normal allele whereas in females, the minimal amount of testosterone
has the opposite effect.
SEX-INFLUENCED
Main Features

Expressed more frequently in one sex than other.

Dominance in the heterozygous condition depends on the sex
of the individual because of the interactions between genes and
hormones.
SEX-INFLUENCED
Additional Info

Two Types of chromosome: Autosomes and Sex Chromosomes

Body chromosomes or Autosomes are those chromosomes that are
not involved in sex determination.
Sex chromosomes are those chromosomes that determine the sex of
an organism.

Sample Problems
If a homozygous bald male is
crossed with a carrier
heterozygous non-bald female, 01
will there be a chance that their
child is a female carrier of bald
trait? Sample Problem
Prove your answer using a Punnett Square
and give the phenotypic and genotypic ratio.
The male is a carrier of a
heterozygous bald trait and is
02 crossed with a female who is
also a carrier of the
heterozygous non-bald trait.

Sample Problem their child would be a male non-
bald carrier?
Prove your answer using a Punnett Square
and give the phenotypic and genotypic ratio.
Are there any questions?
You may ask anything for clarification
about the things you haven't understood.
