1.1.2 Operation Explanation 1.0

 Outline of Operation
This device enables a long time continuous printing by supplying ink from the 2L ink pack through the middle car-
tridge to the main unit in the use of height difference.

The middle cartridge has the almost same construction as the normal ink cartridge. Replace the ink pack after the ink
end is detected at the printer main unit side and the empty LED lights up.

1
The valve is built in the base. The valve is opened when the eco-case is attached and closed when removed.

Do not set the eco case without 2L ink pack in the seat as air will go into the ink supply path.

2
 Valve closed

When the eco case has not been

attached, the Valve open/ close lever is Ink

For the electric parts mounted on this device, the contact part for the ink ID PCB (IC chip) of middle cartridge is only
available.

Use the sensors of each printer for the cartridge presence and the ink near end since the middle cartridge has the
almost same housing as the normal ink cartridge.

7.1.1 Concerning Errors and Malfunctions 1.0

 Outline
This chapter describes the troubleshooting for MBIS3.

 Rough identification of the source of the trouble

Firstly, it is required to make sure whether the trouble is caused by this device or by the printer unit since the device
is optional.

Check whether the same error (trouble) occurs even when a normal ink cartridge is inserted.
If it is the same, refer to the “MAINTENANCE MANUAL” of each printer to fix the trouble.
1
Although no specific error message is available for this device, it may detect the trouble occurring on the
device side. Check it together with the MAINTENANCE MANUAL (“TEST Items”, “Troubleshooting”) of
each printer. 2

7.1.2 Trouble Countermeasures 1.0

Troubles and countermeasures are described in the following.

 Initial charging is not operable

Cause Countermeasure
Ink supply 1. Press the eco case from above and fully push it in the seat.
2. Check whether the valve open/close lever down and the valve is released at
fixing eco case.
Contact failure of middle cartridge 1. Check the ink ID PCB (IC chip). (Incorrect orientation of PCB, incorrect
slot, incorrect version, contact dirtiness or others)
1
2. Remove once then set the middle cartridge securely.
Clogging of ink discharging path 1. Check the ink path visually.
(Cap/Waste ink tube or others) 2. Check the printer unit side. (Refer to each MAINTENANCE MANUAL.)
Mistakes of Initial charging procedure 1. According to the initial charging procedure, execute it correctly.
(For the details, refer to the INSTALLATION GUIDE.) 2
 Printing is not operable
Cause Countermeasure

3
Near end detecting failure due to near end 1. Confirm neither dust nor deformation on the near end detecting part of the
sensor damaged middle cartridge side.
2. Refer to the MAINTENANCE MANUAL of each printer, and check/replace the
near end detecting sensor.
Improper operation of end detecting plate of 1. Check the operation with a normal ink cartridge.
middle cartridge 2. Replace the middle cartridge.

4
3. Refer to the MAINTENANCE MANUAL of each printer, and replace the near end
sensor.
Ink tube bent 1. Confirm neither bend nor sharp curve on the ink tube between the base and
the middle cartridge.

 Middle cartridge stays in unusable condition

Cause
Ink ID PCB (IC chip) damaged Incorrect set-
Countermeasure
1. Check the ink ID PCB (IC chip). (Incorrect orientation of PCB, incorrect 5
ting slot, incorrect version, contact dirtiness or others)
Ink cartridge presence sensor damaged 1. Check the operation with a normal ink cartridge.
2. Refer to the MAINTENANCE MANUAL of each printer, and replace the
Ink cartridge presence sensor.
ID contact PCB damaged 1. Check whether it is still in unusable condition with a normal ink cartridge.
2. Refer to the MAINTENANCE MANUAL of each printer, and replace the ID contact
6
PCB.

 Ink leaking

7
Cause Countermeasure
Ink tube bent 1. Confirm neither bend nor sharp curve on the ink tube between the base and
the middle cartridge.
Leaking from joint 1. Check/tighten the joint of each ink path by hand.
2. Replace the O ring with new one.

8
Male-connector deteriorated 1. Replace the base Assy.
Leaking from 2L ink pack 1. Replace the spout rubber.
2. Replace the ink pack with new one.
