PERFORMANCE ASSESSMENT

Title of the Lesson: Circle

Objective of the Lesson: Illustrate a circle and other terms related to it: radius, diameter chord, center,
arc, chord, central angle and inscribed angle.

PERFORMANCE TASK

Task: Prepare a piece of string, ruler, blank sheet of paper.

1) Draw a center point for your circle in the middle of the paper.

2) Use your piece of string to sketch a circle any size you choose (if you need to draw multiple practice
circles in order to make a great one please do so on a separate sheet).

3) Draw in a radius and measure it in centimeters. Record this below.

r = _____________

4) Draw in a second radius. Measure the central angle formed between your two radii using your
protractor (it should be less than 180 degrees). Record this central angle measure below.

Central Angle Measure = ________________

5) Align the string on the minor arc then measure the string’s length by placing the string up to the ruler.
Record this measurement below.

Measured Minor Arc = ________________

6) Now use the Arc Length Formula to calculate the length of the minor arc. Show all of your work
below. How close was it to what you measured in question #5?

Calculated Minor Arc = ________________

7) Make sure you turn your circle in when you turn this paper in.

PORTFOLIO ASSESSMENT

Math Binder
Standards Process Students will be able to…
• Organize their work
• Evaluate their work and make corrections when necessary
• Demonstrate effective writing skills

Task Description and Criteria

You will construct your own Math Binder and organize it for the whole quarter. The binder must
be a long plastic folder. This will be an ongoing assessment, and you will be adding things to the binder
as we progress into the semester. The guidelines for organizing your binder are written below. The
binder must have dividers labeled with each of the following:
 Daily Notes (Photocopy of your notebook)
Republic of the Philippines
Department of Education
 Homework (graded and corrected)
 Activities, Quizzes, Group Works
 Journal (reflections, goals, and self-evaluations)
For the homework section, you will be grading your own work with a marker and writing in the
correct answer. You will receive points for redoing incorrect problems and correcting your mistakes. For
the Journal section, you will be writing reflections on your work and evaluating your progress
throughout the semester. Since Math Binder is cumulative, the binder should be used as a resource for
reflection, improvement, and to help you study for finals.
Your grade will be based on the following criteria:
 All 4 sections included and labeled
 Neat presentation of materials
 Homework is graded with a marker
 Corrections are made to homework
 Journal reflections are included
 Goals are included
 Self-evaluations are included
