political, the economic, moral, cultural, religious and the scientific and technological

aspects. More importantly, in the contemporary society, the elements of economic,

cultural and the scientific and technological elements are the most dominant.
b. Education is an integral part of attaining the aspects mentioned above of

social change (Sajjad, n.d.), as it is considered the central factor of enlightenment to the

human race. It is through the various forms of education, at all levels, that facilitate the

effective process of social change.

II) Role of education on social change attainment - these are the various

functional areas that education impacts in regards to social change.

a. Facilitating the change of attitude. As stated previously, education brings

enlightenment which is a primary module of modernization. It is through education that

people change their positions and perception to adopt and adapt to the modern ways of

getting things done.

b. It creates the aspiration for change. Education provides information.

Information is the right pillar for change. People equipped with relevant information right

from childhood and inspired to embrace social change.

c. Overcoming the resistance to change. Change is always not accepted in

totality. Some individuals may need further engagements to be convinced. Education

helps individuals learn the essence of change and reason from an informed point of view

III) The role of the teacher in social change attainment – The teacher is the

essential resource for facilitating the acquisition of education. He or she is the tool

through which skills and knowledge are passed onto the learners or rather the students.

This is through the skills, experience, and knowledge that teachers attain in their

professional training. Moreover, they have a lasting social impact as they influence

students from a young age.

a. The teachers as replicas of modernity and social change. Teachers can

achieve social change through education only if they embrace the concept of social

change as well as modernity as a package (Dewey, 1997). This is the portrayal of skills

such as rational thinking, scientific creativity among others.

b. The need for skills and competence. Social change entails inspiring the

young individuals who are the future social drivers. Therefore, the teachers should

present skills and expertise while educating these young people as well as pass these

skills to the youngsters.

c. The teachers have the relevant knowledge, skills, and expertise. They

should, therefore, be in the front row in making viable suggestions for the various aspects

of social change.
d. Teachers should also engage in teaching processes that develop a scientific

attitude in the student that stirs creativity and innovation to spice up the elements of

social change.
