IV. PROCEDURES

I. Class Routine

 The teacher will give first reminders to the students


while having a class discussion.
 Make sure that the students follow the rules and
guidelines during discussions.
 The teacher will now introduce first the lesson
objectives to the students to know whether the learning
targets were achieved at the end of the lesson.

Activity 1 Test your luck

Directions: Students will get a paper, a blank and one with


written approaches in literary criticism. After picking a paper,
students who have the blank paper will not answer. However,
the rest of the students will discuss the particular approach they
picked.

B. Development I. What is it?


REACTION PAPER

a form of paper writing in which the writer expresses his ideas


and opinions about what has been read or seen. Reaction
paper is evaluated due to the writer's communication skills and
only then due the unique ideas and the content. This paper
writing may be informal, two pages long. As all essays, a
reaction paper comprises introduction, body, and conclusion.
In introduction the writers state the main premise, in a body he
expresses his ideas and in conclusion summarizes the results.
The reaction paper is not a summary of the article although
information should be included.

• Come up with a thesis statement

Now, that you know what a
reaction paper is and how to write it, let us read a review of a
movie entitled, “Miracle in Cell No. 7” and evaluate whether it
has the characteristics of a good reaction paper/movie review
or not by answering the following question below.

1. What does the review say about the film?


2. What important qualities of the film were being mentioned
in the review?
3. Explain the essence of the story in the film as stated in the
review.
4. What did the review say about the genre of the film?
5. Do you think the review is good? Why?

C. Engagement What’s more?

Listen to the song, Imagine by John Lennon and write a


reaction paper about it.
Format: Arial 12 font, short bond paper size, and double
spacing.

D. Assimilation What I Can Do

Performance Task (By Group Activity)

Make a reaction video about the poem DEAD STARS (for Paz
Marquez Benitez) by H.O. Santos. Follow the guidelines below:

1. Be sure to use appropriate language, manner and critical


approach. You may use the reader-response criticism,
structuralism or formalism as an approach in writing the
review.

2. The language should be formal and easily understood by the


general public. Use everything that you have learned in this
module.

3. You can also refer to the texts you have read. Those were
very good examples and you can use them as guide as you
develop your own book or movie review.

Note: The video must be not less than 3 minutes and not
more than 5 minutes.
