Journalistic Writings

 Dr Donald Norman: The invention of writing is probably the most important too for human
advancement, making it possible for each new generation to build upon the work of the
previous, to transmit knowledge from person to person across culture and time.
 It brought revolution to human civilization.
 All human have something to express, style may be different.
 Writing is the express of same thoughts through pen, brush etc.
 Writing is practicle: We are making lists, writing notes and instruction
 Job related: All professional write
 Writing is social: Letter of thanks
 Stimulating:
 Therapeutic: You feel relax when you brought it on paper.

Writing well requires

o Clear thinking: We have five senses. We can see, observe, hear, touch, feel, smell etc. The
information happening enter us. We have lots of stuff inside us. We need channelize these
thoughts which need clear thinking. To plan out. It may be difficult but with the passage of time
it becomes easy. Clarity inside is clarity outside
o Sufficient time: You need patience. Need time to write
o A meaningful task: You don’t need actually to go out of your home. Inside your home write
about something meaningful. The topic should be realist first. Later you may write abstract
thing.
o Interest: Have interest in writing not boring.
o Practice: You need to practice about writing again and again. Like write one essay and go
through from time to time you will see the progress
o Revising: Revise your writing. For organization, words, grammer, effectives, impact of writing,
information and ideas, its relevance, format, mechanics of your writing, spelling, punctuation.

Special Points or things to do

o Make the writing real: Two types of topic. Real topics are more concrete while abstract topic is
not concrete. You need to write about concrete topic. Like after reading article, rewrite it in your
own words.
o Read a lot: Good reader is good writer. Listening result in speaking, reading result into writing.
The skill which you offer is reading skill. Like when I ask you to write something. You will need
organization of that ideas and various parts of that ideas, types, structures, sentences, grammar
etc. These need to be learned which is only possible through reading.
o Brainstorm: Pick up pen and write what you have your mind nonstop.
o Keep a journal: Whatever you write keep a record of it. Over the time see the improvement by
comparing previous writings.
o Write together: We need each other. You may take assistance of yur friends. Discuss the ideas
with your friends. This will give opportunity to teach other and you will learn from each other.
o Use games: There software, vocabulary games which may increase your vocabulary. You need to
increase your word stock which you can get from different tools. Use dictionaries etc. Relate the
vocabulary you see with the real world.
o Making lists: Make the list of information, things etc
o Copy facts: Don’t be ashamed of copying in learning. You may copy ideas. You may copy
sentence even from movies, drama. It will have you later in referencing.

Speaking vs Writing

1. Speech is universal while writing is not: Every child learns to speak and automatically start
speaking. But writing needs to be learned. Some may learn while other not.
2. Dialect variation is there in speaking. English is spoken in different dialects but in writing is
standard globally. You need to specific structure
3. Speakers uses vices and bodies while writers relay on wrods only
4. Speakers use pause and intonation while writers punctuate
5. Speakers Pronounce while writer spell
6. Speakers have less plan while wring is high planed and formal and compact
7. Listener are in front of speakers while the writer don’t see the readers that where they are.
8. Speech is usually informal and repetitive vut writing is not
9. Speakers use simple senteces while writer use complex sentences
