INTRODUCTION

Bachelor of Science in Hospitality Management degree are well-suited to providing

students with the necessary information, abilities, and attitude to contribute to quality service in

the hospitality industry (Arcadio & Arcita Jr. et al. 2015). The hospitality management degree

was have a subjects that cover the needs of many sectors in the hospitality industry for instance,

food and beverage, accommodation, tourism, travel and transportation.


To support the development of the industry, tourism and hospitality education was plays an

important role to ensure a continuous supply of quality man power. Therefore, to bridge the gap

of the student experience and staff requirements, the tourism and hospitality education

curriculum is designed to ensure the internship become an integral part of the overall tourism and

hospitality industry (Armah 2022).

By studying hospitality management degree student can develop their knowledge and

skills and learn how to be a professional in front of other people as well as student can be use

their skill in the future by working in the hospitality industry. However, one of the factors that

affecting on senior high school students awareness about hospitality management degree is

because of covid 19 (Gursoy & Chi 2020). Over the past years the world and the Philipphines

experiencing covid-19 that cause temporary closed of many hospitality establishment as well as

school and universities. The pandemic was large impact in hospitality management degree

because student was not be able to take laboratory and limiting the classes that’s why senior high

school students lose their motivations to take hospitality management degree and also that comes

up to lose their awareness about the degree.

Educators teach student including the senior high school level about the scope of their

strand many academics strand that pursue student to choose the degree with near in their strand.

Moreover, a lot of TVL Strand such as automotive, electrical and HE are focus on their own

skills and strand and not aware of hospitality management degree. Furthermore, the senior high

school student was their own decision and preparedness to choose their degree a lot of student is

based on their personal interest and others is based on the degree with popular to them. However

many students choose hospitality management because of their skills and friends and other that

influencing them and the others has choose the degree because there are no choice.
In view of this question “what is the level of awareness of Senior High School Students

towards the hospitality management degree?” hence this study. The purpose of this study is to

know the awareness of the students about the said degree. Many students take hospitality

management degree to earn an opportunity and a career path. However, many students choose

this degree, but they have no idea about the hospitality industry. This is the reason why

researchers conducted this study to know the level of awareness of senior high school students

among Tayabas City about hospitality management as a degree. This research helps senior high

school students to understand the hospitality management degree, to gain awareness and

familiarity with the sector of the industry, career opportunities, skills required and program

learning outcomes.
