Crochet Coaster

Materials: Skills:
3mm crochet hook Slip knot
18.5m of yarn A Chain (ch)
3.7m of yarn B Slip stitch (sl st)
Tapestry needle Double crochet (dc)
Stitch marker Single crochet (sc)

Instructions:
Centre:
1. Using yarn A, start with a slip knot on your hook.
2. Chain (ch) 4.
3. Slip stitch (sl st) into first
chain. This should create a
small circle for you to put your stitches into.

Round 1:
1. Ch 3. This is your first double crochet (dc) stitch.
2. Work 2 dc into the circle. You should now have what looks like
3 dc next to each other. Ch 2.
3. Now, work 3 dc into the circle. Ch 2.
4. Repeat this 2 more times. You should have 4 groups of 3
double crochet and 2 chains.
5. Sl st into the top of your first dc.
Round 2:
1. Turn over your work.
2. Ch 3. Work 2 dc into the corner space. Ch 2.
3. Work 3 dc into the same corner space. Ch 1.
4. Work 3 dc into the next corner space. Ch 2. Work 3 more
dc into the corner space. Ch 1. Repeat 2 more times.
5. Sl st into the top of your first dc.

Round 3:
1. Again, turn your work.
2. Ch 3. 2 dc into the space. Ch 1.
3. Work 3 dc into the corner space. Ch 2. Work 3 more dc into the corner space. Ch 1.
4. Work 3 dc into the next space. Ch 1. Work 3 dc into the corner space. Ch 2. Work 3 more dc into the
corner space. Ch 1. Repeat 2 more times.
5. Sl st into the top of your first dc.

Round 4 & 5:
1. Continue with the same pattern. Always turn your work and chain 3 to begin.
2. For each corner space make sure there are 2 sets of 3 dc with 2 chains between them. For each
ordinary space make sure there is only 1 set of 3 dc with 1 chain between them. See the picture for
more help.
3. At the end of round 5, use yarn B to sl st. See pictures for help.

Round 6:
1. Chain one and then single crochet (sc) into every stitch. This time you will work into the stitch not
into the spaces.
2. Once you get to the final stitch, do not sl st. Make the loop on your hook bigger and bigger until it
becomes undone. Use the tapestry needle to put the yarn through the first loop and then back
down into the last loop.
3. From here you can sew in your ends using a tapestry needle. When you are confident your work is
secure, cut the ends of the yarn.

Your coaster is finished!!
