9 Week Current Conflict Analysis Project

Directions: Remember that nonfiction texts have a certain purpose, main idea, structure, and other elements intended to
persuade and inform the audience. Having the ability to analyze nonfiction texts allows you to uncover any information
the author or speaker has for you. For Project, you will use PowerPoint to present your information. After selecting your
Current Conflict, follow the step-by-step instructions below:

1. Choose an issue that is a conflict in today’s in modern-day society.


Example: Teen Violence (students cannot use this example)
2. Find one reliable nonfiction current event article or speech that informs or persuades the reader about your chosen
issue or theme (contact your instructor if you are uncertain about an article’s reliability)
Example: Teen Violence in America Today (students cannot use this example)
3. Closely read the article or speech and break down all nonfiction elements in the text
4. Create a presentation that answers the following questions in complete sentences/developed paragraphs for the
chosen article nd organize your presentation as shown below:
 Slide 1: Title Slide that includes your name, period, date, chosen issue, article & author.
 Slide 2: What is the article or documentary about? Provide a short summary of the text or
documentary (8-10 lines).
 Slide 3: What is the author or speaker’s purpose? Include cited evidence for support and explain how
the evidence supports your claims.
 Slide 4: What is the author or speaker’s main idea? Include cited evidence for support and explain
how the evidence supports your claims.
 Slide 5: Identify at least 3 Supporting details that support the Main idea.
 Slide 6: What is the structure of the text or documentary? (review text structure video)
 Slide 7: Why do you think the author or speaker choose this specific structure?
 Slide 8: What is the author’s Tone, regarding the topic?
 Slide 9: Identify evidence from the text that supports your tone.
 Slide 10: Identify the Author’s Perspective & add evidence from the text
 Slide 11: What is the THEME of the article? Or What can we learn from it?
 Slide 12: Works Cited with proper Source Citation
Requirements:
 MLA Format must appear on each slide (in-text citations for each piece of evidence)
 At least one image must appear on each slide
 All responses to the analysis questions must be answered with depth and evidence
 Creativity is expected
