future responsibilities.Academic failure from universities is a
problem that has become a serious concern for tertiary
institutions. The purpose of this report, therefore,is to discuss the

students
2.1.Problem in understanding English

PAGE 3
Englsih is the learning language used at most tertiary institutions in
Namiba. It is found by research that most students come from remote areas
of the country where English is not a common language to further their
studies in developed towns with higher education facilities and learning
tools that are sometimes not available or adequate enough for the studies
they wish to persue. As a result, classes are comprised of students with un-
adequate English speaking-interpretion skills which for these students, may
results in them failing exams as they are unable to follow classes and
respond accurately to examined questions.

2.2. Poor library facility

Poor library services are one of the crucial causes of academic

failure among students. Some institutions according to the
survey don’t provide a well-structured library. They also don’t
provide the necessary books to the students and for majority of
students that prefer self-study to prepare for the
examinations, poor library services at respective institutions
hinder them from performing their level best as believed.

2.3. Lack of time management skills

A college environment's freedom and flexibility can derail

students who have not mastered time-management skills. Poor
time management can lead to a series of problems with deadlines
as one my develop problems with not knowing what to prioritize.
Declining academic performance is a consequence of poor time
management. With heavy classloads,Students may attempt to
cope by dropping classes or withdrawing for a semester.
However, failure to maintain a grade point average may trigger
placement on academic probation. An overly programmed
schedule may convince students that adequate sleep is a lesser
priority, but the opposite is true, lack of sleep reduces the brain's
ability to process information and fully absorb its meaning. The
more this process is interfered with, the less effective

performance becomes, according to the recent
studies. Graduation rates remain poor for minorities as effects
resulting from the lack of time management skills

3.Conclusion

This report focused on factors that result in the rising and

continuous failure rate in institutions in Namibia. The key factors
include problems with understanding English among some
students, poor library services and lack of time management
skills. The solution is students are advised to assist each other in
matters that they do not underdstand and support each other to
persue their dream.Lecturers should provide
guidance, motivation and show more than willingness to help
students believe and carry out their capabilities.
