Importance of Technical Writing

Technical writing is an exciting area in the field of communication that offers diverse and
challenging opportunities to make a real difference in people’s lives. Technical writing is
about communicating technical things to people who may or may not technically
inclined (Clendining, 2011). Technical Writing is the practice of taking complex sets of
information and making them understandable to readers (Johnson, 2017). Technical
writing is content that explains how products, services and processes work. Complex
source material goes in. Simple content comes out. In short, technical writers explain
how stuff works (Espirian, 2017).

The importance of technical writing can be seen in a variety of applications in our daily lives.
Whether you're a professional or just an ordinary person. Technical writing is both a public
service and an order to chaos and confusion.

With continually changing technology and processes, there will always be a need to help
others understand new information. From press releases and product descriptions to
manuals detailing the emergency landing procedures for a Boeing 727, technical writing
is everywhere. According to (UX Staffing Consultants, 2018)

Indeed, Technical writing is everywhere and that's what makes it important. Technical writing is
a true public service, because it is something you wouldn't do for yourself nor for your own
pleasure. A technical document is always written for someone else, for your client, or for the
public. That's why one of the rules in technical writing is you must consider your audience. And
knowing that you were able to provide what your audiences need, that gives a special
satisfaction for yourself. Technical writing also brings order to chaos and confusion. "How does
it work?”, “How to use it?”, “How to operate it?" All of us had already asked this kind of
question many times in our lives. In a world where products and services are getting more
advanced and complicated day by day, someone needs to explain how to use things in a clear
and precise way. Imagine a world without any user guides, reference guides, installation guides,
documentations, and etc. How would you use that phone or laptop you are using at this
moment? Without clear and precise writing that gives the specifications and directions on use,
products can become useless and worst, dangerous. These examples proved the importance of
technical writing in our daily lives.
