ALYA
I’m so happy we finally graduate!

MYRA
Me too! But I’m sad at the same time because it means we cannot always meet together again.

ALYA
Don’t be sad, Myra. Maybe we can go to the same university or even the same work place one
day.

MYRA
Hmm... I hope so. I want to always close to my only best friend you know.

ALYA
(smiling at Myra)

FAUZI
So Alya, are you going to continue your study?

ALYA
Hmm.. I don’t know. But I really hope I can go to the university. I also want to run a business in
town. Opening a cafe of my own. What about you?

FAUZI
That sounds great! I’m planning to study Public Relation. I really want to work in a government
office one day.

BILLY
(interrupting their conversation)
Hahahah you must be joking Fauzi. How big your dream is going to the university and study
what??? Public Relation? What do you even know about public stuff while you only come from
a poor family and live in a village. Right, David?

DAVID
Yeah, that’s right. Hahahah

MYRA
Shut up you two! Don’t mock our dream!

ALYA
Yeah. I think there’s nothing wrong to have a big dream. We might be nothing now, but who
knows we will be a succesful person in the future?

BILLY
It is difficult to find a job nowdays. And money is important to help you in this life. You come
from a poor family. What can you do to survive from this era?

DAVID
(nodding his head while Billy is talking)

FAUZI
Life always changes, Billy. We don’t know what the future holds.

DAVID
Well, just see if my words are right or not later.

SCENE 2

Cameo : some students

their class. Suddenly they see their high school mates, Fauzi, Alya and Myra sitting on the grass
field in front of the campus. Billy is shocked because he doesn’t think that they will go to the
same university.

ALYA
Look at these! Stealing a lot of books from the library, huh?

FAUZI
Hey! How are you?

ALYA
I’m good, thanks.

Myra
Good. You never change. Right, Al? Diligent as always.

FAUZI
Ah.. I’m just reading some politic stuff. It’s interesting to know how our politicians work in this
country. What do you bring anyway?

ALYA
Oh, this is a project I’ll submit today. You wanna see it?
(showing her project off to Fauzi)

FAUZI
(reading the project briefly)
Wow! So you study law?

ALYA
Yep.
(smiling)

(David and Billy enter)

DAVID
Wait man! I think that’s Fauzi.
(pointing out at Fauzi)

BILLY
Who is Fauzi?

DAVID
Our friend from high school who dreamed to go to the university.

BILLY
He is not our friend. Come on.
(approaching Fauzi, Alya, and Myra)

BILLY
I didn’t expect you’ll study here. How do you get here?

ALYA
That’s none of your business, Billy!
(trying to ignore Billy and pretending to read a book)

BILLY
How do you get here, too?

ALYA
(keep pretending to read the book)

DAVID
So, Fauzi. What are studying?

MYRA
He is studying Public Relation you know. Just as what he dreams of.

FAUZI
Good to see you all again. What are you studying?

BILLY
Public Relation, too. But I really wish I would never see you at the same classes.
FAUZI
You never change, Bil.

BILLY
So you do. You’re still a poor kid who dreams to be a succesful person. I really wonder how you
get here. You must be begging the staff and influencing them to accept you when you registered
here, right???
(talking loudly that the students around them can hear their conversation)

DAVID
Calm down, man. The others are looking at us.

MYRA
How dare you talk like that to him?! Who do you think you are?

ALYA
Don’t be so arrogant, Bill!

FAUZI
Well, guys I think I need to go now. My class will be began soon.
(walking away from them)

BILLY
I’m not done talking to you asshole.

MYRA
He is gone..

ALYA
See what you’ve done! Ughh..
(standing up and leaving Billy and David)

DAVID
Just go away.

3 years later, Billy, Fauzi and Alya have graduated from college. They have tried to find a job
that suits their skill, but it is difficult even though they graduated from one of the most famous
universities in the province. Since Billy comes from a rich family, it is easy for him to get a good
job. His parents must have prepared everything for him. Now, Billy is working in a government
office. Meanwhile, Fauzi and Alya are still trying their best to get a job in town.
SCENE 3
Setting : at the town park
Equipment : a bench, pots, formal outfits, files.
Cameo :-

FAUZI
Excuse me? Alya? Right?

ALYA
Oh hey! How are you? What are you doing here?

FAUZI
Taking a break after going to some interviews. What about you? Have you got a job?

ALYA
Not yet. I went to some interviews too, but they haven’t called me for the result.

FAUZI
That sounds like me. Even some companies rejected me.

ALYA
Why’s that?

FAUZI
They said they were afraid they couldn’t pay me for my degree, you see.

ALYA
It’s really difficult to find a job nowdays. Some of us actually don’t matter about the salary. We
just want a job. Something to do instead of doing nothing at home.

FAUZI
You’re right. So what can we do now? there aren’t many jobs as many as the graduates.
ALYA
We should do something.

FAUZI
Hmm... why don’t we run a business? A small business of our own?

ALYA
That’s a great idea! I can open a cafe like what I used to dream of. Instead of tired looking for a
job, why don’t we create a job?
(talking excitedly to Fauzi)

FAUZI
Yeah maybe we can employ some of our friends too. It would be great to work with friends
rather than other people.

ALYA
I can use my house to run the cafe. Just decor and set it beautifully. Then, I’ll make Myra to
work with me. She must be very happy.

FAUZI
That’s a good plan!

SCENE 4
Setting : at government office
Equipment : chair, table, laptop, flower vase, some files, papers, formal outfits.
Cameo :-
Billy is working on his comfortable room. Doing some files and thinking about his plans.
Suddenly, Mrs. Siska, a chief office comes in.
BILLY
(talking monologue)
It’s actually easy to get a job. Not as difficult as they say.
(gets up and walks back and forth in front of his table)
Especially if you have relations with some important people. I’m so lucky that my parent have
prepared everything for me.
(sitting on his table arrogantly)
Because I don’t need to go out there. Walking around the town under the sun, finding a company
to employ me. This work is just like what I dream of. But somehow, they don’t pay me as what I
expected.

MRS. SISKA
(knocking the door)

BILLY
(going back to his chair)
Oh.. please come in.

MRS. SISKA
(entering the room and sitting in front of Billy)
How’s this job, Bill?

BILLY
Umm.. Getting busy. But I can handle it.

MRS. SISKA
Good. We trust you since your parent suggest us to make you hold this position. I cannot always
give a job easily to the graduates out there because I’m tired to interview them. They might be
smart and have some achievements, but still, we need trusted people to work here. Huhhh... They
said they wanted a job, but when they got it, they complained the salary given. It’s not that fast to
be succed working in a government office. Well, I hope you are not like them.

BILLY
Of course not, mam.

MRS. SISKA
By the way, I got a file for you. It’s a proposal from a village. They ask for some money to build
a new school. It’s not a little money. So can you handle this one? Just manage that they’ll get
what they want.

BILLY
Sure. I’ll try my best for this.

MRS. SISKA
Thank you. We put trust on you for this.

BILLY
Thank you, mam.

MRS. SISKA
Alright. I have some other things to do. I’ll back to my room. Good luck!
(shaking hands to Billy and walking out of the room)

BILLY
Thank you.

BILLY
(looking at the proposal and reading it breifly)
(talking monologue)
What???? 5 billions just for a goddamn school? It’s too much!! What kind of school they’ll
build? No, they must be joking.
(planning to corrupt the money)
Hmm... I think it’s okay to save some money for my own. I’m sure it’s more than enough to
build a fucking school with this amount of money.
(shaking his head unbelieveably)
They are really insane.
Yess! I’ll get extra money for this project. This is my chance.

SCENE 5
Setting : at Alya’s cafe
Equipment : tables, chairs, cups, snacks, name tags, etc. (set like cafe)
Cameo : some customers

MYRA
Look at how your brilliant idea works, Al!
This is amazing. We have a lot of customers here.
ALYA
This is the final decision I took. Creating a job field in my own business.

MYRA
You’ve helped others for your business because it’s really difficult to find a job out there
nowdays.

FAUZI
And being smart and having bachelor degree don’t guarantee you to always get job that you
want. In this era, we cannot always count on someone else. Sometimes, being independent can
also lead you to be success. Moreover, we have knowledge and technology that can help us to
survive from this life. It’s just how we manage them smartly. And.. never be shy to try
something new.

ALYA
That’s right. I’m so happy we can work together in our own business.
Hmm... seeing that we always have many customers every day, why don’t we open a new
branch?

MYRA
I agree.

CUSTOMER
Excuse me? Can I have the menu, please?

MYRA
Oh, the customers is calling guys.
(going to serve the customer)

FAUZI
That’s a good idea anyway! I can see that our customers come from far places too. Maybe we
can open a new branch somewhere.

ALYA
And you’ll be the one who handle it.

FAUZI
Okay!
SCENE 6
Setting : at prison
Equipment : orange vest, handcuffs, etc.
Cameo :-
Billy is prisoned because of his corruption case. He takes the money from a village that is
planned to build a school. After the polices bring him to the KPK, he cannot escape from this
case. He gets 20 years in prison for taking people’s money. The government and the people don’t
trust him anymore. Most of them are disappointed of his work. Now he is in prisoned to bear
what he has done.
BILLY
NO! YOU CAN’T DO THIS TO ME! TAKE OFF THESE HANDCUFFS FROM ME!
(trying to escape his hands from the handcuffs)

POLICE 1
Calm down, sir.

POLICE 2
(holding Billy’s hands)

BILLY
I DON’T TAKE THOSE MONEY, I SWEAR. NOOO!
(entering the prison)

POLICE 1
Now you must be responsible for what you’ve done.

BILLY
NO! PLEASE, LET ME OUT!
SIR, PLEASE, LET ME OUT, LET ME OUTTTT!
