1. why forward center of gravity increases the longitudinal stability?

Forwarding the CG increases the distance between the Tail plane and the CG.

Since Moment= Force x Distance, increasing this distance increases the turning effect
(moment). Even if a lesser lift force produced at the tail plane, a more powerful turning effect
can be seen. Hence more longitudinal stability is obtained.

2. what is meant by neutral static stability?

an object displaced from equilibrium remains in equilibrium in the displaced position. If the
object subject to a disturbance has neither the tendency to return nor the tendency to continue
in the displacement direction, neutral static stability is achieved.

3. why larger degree of stability tends to make the aircraft less controllable?

Controllability of an aircraft comes from the pilot Maneuvers which uses the control surfaces to
control the aircraft movement. Stability is the tendency of the aircraft to return to its original
equilibrium position after a disturbance. If the stability is high, the forces created by the control
surfaces by the pilot to do any flight maneuvering becomes less effective. Hence, to overcome
these stabilizing forces more control force will be required during maneuvering. Higher the
stability, more difficult it would be for the controllability to overcome the stabilizing forces
making the aircraft less controllable.

4. what is the effect of flaps on aircraft stall speed?

the increase in CL max due to flap deflection reduces the stalling speed as described in the
equation:

CL max increases when the flaps are deployed which is known as C LMF .

The is less than 1. So VS is greater than VSF.
