Introduction

The work presented below seeks to show the viewer in a summarized way what metaphor

means, its characteristics and application in everyday life, using past tense verbs and

compositions learned during the course.

The metaphor, it is about naming something with something else, to force an association or

analogy between the two. A metaphor can embellish a description, be comical, ironic,

offensive, take an unexpected turn or even be enigmatic, mysterious.

There are two types of metaphor, mainly: the explicit one, when the two terms appear in the

expression; and the implicit one, when the tenor does not appear but must be inferred or

deduced from the expression.

with the previous introduction proceeds to advance in the activities.

them, where one refers to the real and the other to the imaginary.

- What is a metaphor?

The metaphor is a comparison that is made based on something objective with something

abstract, which is intended to be based on inspiration to embellish phrases or diminish

them.

- How are metaphors created?

For my concept, metaphors are created through an imaginary instinct where objectivity

does not exist, therefore, it is simply and simply a comparison that seeks to give poetic

characteristics to what is wanted to be expressed.

- What is the influence of metaphors on culture and societies?

Metaphors influence society, especially community leaders, mayors, and high-ranking

military officers; since when assuming a position his followers make exclamations in which

they refer to a behavior of superiority different from that with which they started and in

culture we can give an example with the sculptor Fernando Botero who in his sculptures

captures infinite comparisons of beautiful landscapes with his beautiful gorditas, to express

the beauty of the valleys.

Pick one of the following metaphors

Every member of the group should have a different metaphor.

All the world’s a stage, and all the men and women are merely players. They have

their exits and their entrances. William Shakespeare. (Lendys Osorio)

A good conscience is a continual Christmas. Benjamin Franklin (Liseth Gómez)

You ain’t nothing’ but a hound dog, cryin’ all the time. Elvis Presley

Art washes away from the soul the dust of everyday life. Pablo Picasso

Conscience is a man’s compass. Vincent Van Gogh (Liseth Paola Mahecha)

A hospital bed is a parked taxi with the meter running. Groucho Marx

In a word document do the following steps with your metaphors

Explain the meaning of the metaphor in your own words

Lendy's contribution

This metaphor alludes to the fact that the world we live in is the same as a stage

because both men and women play a role in life and that this role fulfills a cycle of

entrances and exits that are repeated in a certain period where we have the

possibility of assume responsibilities to fulfill each of the activities that we intend to

do in life and that different acts are presented on stage that have to do with our

experiences throughout our lives.

Liseth's contribution

In my opinion, I consider that this metaphor refers to the fact that good conscience

is that we are doing things well as they should, correct that they generate happiness

for others and that Christmas is the most beautiful time in which we can share

family moments. , with friends and other people that we have not seen for a long

time. At Christmas we generally offer hospitality to those who visit us, we rejoice

and reflect on everything that has been experienced throughout the year and in

certain areas of our lives and at Christmas we take the opportunity to show more

love towards others because we have more time to share with other people.

The metaphor is the way of expressing oneself by replacing real words with unreal ones,

giving them a touch of a poem, joke, or offense.

Narrate an experience of your life related to the selected metaphor

The text must be mínimum of 300 words.

Lendy's contribution

An experience related to this metaphor is that in one of the acts of my life, the

scenario became different because I had to face with great courage the cancer

disease in my 48-year-old husband two years ago in the midst of the COVID-19

pandemic.where uncertainty, panic, and hopelessness took hold of many families in

our country and in many parts of the world, and my family and I went through a

difficult time because our roles at that time changed in many aspects, such as the

responsibilities of our daily life, because my husband was working as a security

guard and to start his chemotherapy treatment he had to leave his job for some time.

I felt more committed to this new reality because I also left my teaching duties for

almost two months while we were hospitalized. For my daughters, that was

something shocking. Her father had never been sick of almost anything. My

husband and I decided to look for hope in the midst of what seemed impossible and

we began to adopt healthy habits, both physical and mental, so as not to let

ourselves be frightened by what we were experiencing at that time and what the

whole world was experiencing, so we decided to watch different programs on

television and just watch a single newscast to find out the situation. In that new

entrance to the act where our stage became teams and staff from the oncology

clinic, we lived a supernatural experience which allowed us to go out to live a new

act where the stage was filled with purposes. Later my husband gave testimony of

his healing and the radical change that took place in our family was unimaginable in

many things. My learning has been that in each act of our life there are different

entrances, but only one exit that every human being will experience one day.
Liseth's contribution

An experience related to the metaphor I chose has to do with my work activity

where I worked 2 years ago as a nursing assistant in the vaccination area in a health

institution in the municipality where I live. A few months ago, a situation arose at

work related to the request for a vaccination card, especially for yellow fever and

tetanus, requested by some people who work in oil and mining companies that are

exploring in our region, people aspiring to positions workers, drivers, mechanics

among others; these companies asked for these documents as a requirement and

these in turn went to the health entity and the health personnel who were in some

village to access the certification of the vaccination card without having applied the

biological and this gender in me something which is wrong, because it goes against

my professional ethics, this has confronted me to reflect on what people want

without taking into account the value of honesty, respect, responsibility.

The affective relationships in this case played an important role because having a

friendship with an applicant for one of these positions, he thought that he could help

him with this procedure, but my conscience and values prevailed, which since I was

a child taught me which are for lifetime.

At that moment I told him to reflect for a moment on how he would feel if he had to

do the same at his job because in every job there is a professional ethic to uphold in

order to feel like the best time of the year where we experience pleasant feelings

and this He made me talk to him with more serenity, love and Understanding

because this could cost me my job and with this experience I learned that if we act

well in everything we do.

When I was twelve years old, I lived in Medellín with my father. Who was dedicated to

making backpacks and travel briefcases was a very busy man did not dedicate any time to

me. He was all command and that I was in the stage of adolescence, and the rebellion was

quite naughty. I loved to do evil to my schoolmates, I remember dreaming of being a

psychologist; but what madness, the companions told me, they said that because my antics

had nothing to do with my dreams; For I pulled the hair of my companions, made ugly

drawings in their notebooks, and poured paint on their uniforms.

The teachers knew that my character was like that, but an ethics teacher always told me:

"conscience is the compass of man" After so long I managed to understand what he meant.

When I finished high school, I took a 360-degree turn; My dream since then was to be an

English teacher. I have the satisfaction. That thanks to the fact that I listened to that

professor at that time I straightened my path and I managed to realize. That I was not being

a psychologist, but a teacher.

That metaphor has remained in my mind. I apply day by day. If I do not know where I am

going, I do not take the first step. And if I do not take the first step, I will not reach the top.

Doing things right, always has a reward.

Coincidentally after 18 years I find that same expression, currently studying Bachelor of

Foreign Languages with emphasis in English. Being my father's advisor when he needs it.

Doing a job that has everything to do with my dreams and unexpectedly verifying that

consciousness is the one who directs the life of the human being.

Now I'm 30. The same applies to my family. At home to my children, my partner and those

closest to me; I always try to guide them and induce them to do things well and act with

others, as they would like others to treat them.

Collaborative Activity

Make meaningful comments about your partners´ experiences

Pick one of your partners ‘stories and make a review of the metaphor explanation and
the narration of the experience.

Commentary by Lendys

The experience of the colleague Liceth Mahecha is very significant because it reminds me
that at one point in our lives the vast majority of people walk without a compass and make
bad decisions only to realize after a while that it was not the right thing to do, that is why it
is important that children grow up in family environments where they are mainly given love
and accompaniment in everything they do to have fixed goals but unfortunately our reality
is different and many times we take too long to understand that our conscience is always
telling us that it is okay and it's wrong. Liseth Gómez's experience draws my attention
because today we see how many people face difficulties in their jobs having to agree to
external requests to get a favor, but if we do the right thing our conscience will always be in
a continuous Christmas, this it means that doing things well will always make you feel
satisfied and without any regrets.

Commentary by Liseth Gómez

The experience lived by the partners Liseth Mahecha was not easy at all in what she has
had to live since her childhood next to her father, from an early age I think that she lacked
affection, more support from her father, this affected her and she did not have a good
behavior with her classmates she did wrong to her classmates she did wrong things but she
knew that in their minds that what she was doing was not right because it affected her
classmates regardless of the damage she caused with this.

This lived experience teaches us that we must let ourselves be guided by good decisions,
listen to our conscience that is always indicating and guiding us towards the right path.
The experience lived by the partners Lendys is a bit difficult because she had to face a
situation that none of us in life are prepared for to happen to us nor do we ever think it will
happen to us, but I think that in this scenario of her life it was something that she, with her
husband, managed to overcome it, that her departure was like one more event that happens
in our lives.

Commentary by Liseth Mahecha

good afternoon colleagues, this time I am going to tell you something in particular about
each of your contributions, for example to classmate Liseth Gomez; I liked the metaphor
she chose... conscience is a constant Christmas. Certainly when things are done they are
done well, tranquility surrounds the human being in such a way that it is reflected in their
day-to-day life, I congratulate you, it is a way of making people enter into context that
sometimes we do things without thinking that what we do can have an effect in a positive
or positive way.

compañera lendys Osorio that part where she answers that the metaphor is the particle
capable of giving color to the emotions of language; interesting has a good concept in his
own words, gave it a good meaning and is quite explicit.

Classmates, I would like to emphasize that the grammar they handle in the English
language is quite good, the coherence with which they relate their answers to those of the
video are important for this work; However, I could not see his metaphors published and I
decided to make this video based on what we had worked on before due to the issue of
time, but I know that we are on the right track.

Conclusions

After having read and investigated concepts regarding metaphor and why it influences the

life of the human being, it is concluded that metaphor is an elegant way of making

comparisons, compliments and even offense; It is an important part of being human to be

able to express oneself and a beautiful way to do it is through metaphor.

The metaphor is a very important rhetorical figure that helps us associate words that have

similarities to give a particular characteristic to what you want to express.
