Information on tuition methods and materials:

Studying
Not all topics are covered by the lectures, however through the counting activities, study questions and hand ins all
the learning objectives can be reached.
Due to class size of 1, it is expected the prereading for lessons can be agreed upon, and focus in class will be shorter
lectures on selected topics and guidance on exercises and hand-ins. Number of lessons can be varied in agreement
with the student.

Deadlines and Feedback

Deadlines are available in Moodle. If an extension is required the student is expected to request this in advance and
advise when the hand in can be delivered.
Feedback is written and can be expected about 1 week after the deadline. Variations may occur.
The student are welcome to seek further elaboration on feedback.

Methodology
It is expected that hand ins follow methodology standards and are structured to facilitate easy reading. This
includes a front page, list of contents, foreword, main text body with references, end/conclusion and a list of
literature.

Resources
The textbook “SSSLP Strength and Loading Principles” by M. A. Rhodes will be used to some extent. When this
textbook is used the numbering of examples and exercises from presentations will correspond to chapter number
of the textbook. Please note the previous edition can also be used but only on a limited number of topics and there
is no link between numbering og examples and exercises and section number.
The textbook “Skibsteknik 1” on cargo handling is voluntary, but can be quite helpful to give an overview of the ship
types in question. However, this course relies to a larger extend on the primary sources of legislation, guidelines
and industry practices. The updated of legislation and guidelines can be accessed through www.regs4ships.com. If
you are unable to use this website outside SIMAS premises the lecturer will be provide a folder on Moodle with
relevant legislation, guidelines and industry practices.
Throughout the course stability instruments will be used. These can all be accessed via the VMware Horizon client.
Tuition on the use of the programmes and familiarization exercises will be provided.
