Section A
1. (a) Define regional delineation. Briefly discuss the main characteristics of (20)
different types of regions.
(b) According to Smith, an administrative region must have to fulfill at least five (10)
criteria. Explain the criteria with examples.

2. (a) Explain the Weighted Index Number method in delineating the formal (15)
regions.
(b) Briefly discuss the shift-share components used for the industrial structure (15)
and regional development of a country.

3.(a) Define regional disparity and the factors responsible for causing regional (17)
disparities in Bangladesh.
(b) Briefly discuss the strategies and policies of a Five-Year Plan for (13)
addressing regional disparity of Bangladesh.

Section B
4. (a) Critically analyze “Central Place” and “Growth Pole” theory. Which one is (15)
more applicable for Bangladesh considering the socio-economic and
geographic aspects of Bangladesh? Explain. .
(b) Suppose, a jute processing industry is currently situated in Khalishpur, (15)
Khulna. Due to some complexities the industry needs to be relocated and
there are two options (Daulatpur and Fultala) available for relocation.
Prepare a list of factors and develop a matrix for choosing the suitable one
based on an empirical approach.

5. (a) Describe a simple input-output table with proper example for a particular (10)
region showing intra-regional industrial transection.
(b) “Ideal location for any particular industry is determined by a number of (20)
suitable factors depending on the industrial requirement according to
empirical approach” -Explain using required example.

6. (a) “Production-function type growth theory establishes a relationship among (15)

the factors of production and explains regional growth from that point of
view” – explain using necessary diagram.
(b) “Shopping behavior at regional level can be explained using gravity model (15)
by addressing socio-economic perspective of Bangladesh”-do you agree?
Justify using appropriate example.
