i) Sending end voltage ii) Sending end current iii) Sending end power iv) Efficiency of
transmission line
Given, 𝐴 = 𝐷 = 0.9696∠0. 3490 , 𝐵 = 52.88∠74.790 𝛺, 𝐶 = 11.77 × 10−3 ∠90.150 S

b) Each of the three insulators forming a string has a self-capacitance of C farad. Shunt 6
capacitance of each insulator is 0.25C to earth and 0.15C to line. Calculate the voltage
distribution across each insulator as a percentage of line voltage to earth and the string
efficiency. (VKM-181)

2a) A transmission line conductor consists of hard drawn copper 240 mm2 in cross section 6
and has a span of 160 metres, the supporting structure being level. The conductor has
an ultimate strength of 42.2 kg/mm2 and the desired factor of safety is 5. Find the
vertical sag with a wind pressure of 1.35 kg/metre length and an ice coating of 1.25
cm. Take the density of hard drawn copper as 8.9 g/cc and weight of ice as 915 kg/m3.

b) A 3-Core, 3-phase metal sheathed cable in testing for capacitance gave the following 6
results:
i) capacitance between all conductors bunched and sheath = 0.66 µF
ii) capacitance between two conductors bunched with sheath and third conductor = 0.39
µF
With the sheath insulated, find the capacitance
a) Between any two conductors
b) Between any two bunched conductor and third conductor

connected to 11 kV, 3-phase, 50 Hz system.
3a) A two-wire dc distributor AB, 1000 m long has a total resistance of 0.1 Ω. The ends A 6
and B are fed at 240 V. The distributor is uniformly loaded at 0.5 A/metre length and
has concentrated loads of 120 A, 60 A, 100 A and 40 A at points distant 200, 400, 700
and 900 m respectively from end A. Calculate
