2d10 Setting

Knights of the Seven Circles

(character career archetypes for 7circ: ambassador (face), scientist (eng/art), mage, soldier, ranger, rogue,
priest??)

- The world has known about the ‘truth’ of the supernatural/preternatural for a long time.
- In recent years they have become a less prevalent an effect on the world (renaissance, enlightenment etc.)
- This is a deliberate move in order to combat them and ‘protect’ humanity by the powers that be (mainly
nations but also some secret orders/societies worldwide)
- Many super/preter-natural entities are happy (enough) with this arrangement as the pure numbers of
humanity, and it’s predilection for exploration and experiment, have made their survival more difficult.
- Not all agree with this however.
- The Shield organisation was set up to protect humanity from the worst of the supernatural and other circles
whilst maintaining the appearance of the absence of the supernatural (maintaining the ‘ground already won’.)

Purpose and Jobs of Shield

1) Maintain and enforce The Glamour

2) Protect and serve the inhabitants of Gaia (humanity and the supernatural)

- Protect Gaia/Our World (humanity??) from the predation of the supernatural already existent in our circle.
- Prevent incursions of the supernatural from The Hedge or other circles.
- Maintain the illusion of the absence of the supernatural in our world. (The glamour)
- Help maintain a register of supernatural entities and the ‘supernatural districts’. (questionable methods and
approaches)
- Explore The Seven Circles in order to ‘know your enemy’. (supposedly)
- Study the supernatural for humanities benefit. (deliberate narrative weird double standard)
- Protect the supernatural from humanity

The Hedge (veil, maze)

- Connecting strand or membrane between the circles.

The Circles and Angles (degrees)

- Gaia (Our World)

- Pandemonium (Hell)
- Elysium (Heaven)
- The Abyss (Eldritch)
- Shadow Realm (underworld)
- The Fae (otherworld)
- Atlantia (realm of magic and primordial forces/elements)

Our World – Gaia

Our world, the place we call home, is one of the circles. This can be one of the toughest things for a person
new to the true nature of the universe to accept.
- Are we 1 or 7? Does it matter?

The Players of Games – Pandemonium and Elysium

Whilst these two circles may be popularly conceived as heaven and hell, that would be a gross
oversimplification. In many ways Elysium is more dangerous than Pandemonium. Pandemonium strikes the
Gaian mind as a dangerous place not to be trusted, where as the perfect beauty of Elysium can fool the
unwary in to thinking otherwise.

Hunger and Consumption – The Shadow Realm

This place is what many conceive as an underworld, but it is far more active than it’s shadowy nature would
make it seem.
- Devoid of proper form and proper ‘life’
- want it at all costs.
- original birthplace of vampyr

‘Like here but not quite.’ – The Strange/The Wyld (The Fae Lands)
- Players of games akin to practical jokes, not chess games like others.
- beautiful and deadly.
- Is The Hedge a part of The Wyld?

‘Look But Never Stare’ – The Abyss

- In fact, don’t look.
- Eldritch horror
- older than time
- Incalculable knowledge and cunning
- Dislike all others
- Everything will end in The Abyss?

Raw, untamed power and potential – Atlantia

- Home to Atlantis
- Elemental ‘plane’
- Magic ‘plane’
- The nice circle?
