QUESTION 1

Certain oil with sp.gr 0.96 flows-up through an inclined pipe of uniform diameter of
200mm with a mean velocity of 2 m/s. The pressure at the datum of the pipe is
measured as 20 N/cm2 with a pressure gauge. Determine the total head of oil at a
section which is 12m above the datum. Determine the mass flow rate through the
pipe.

QUESTION 2

A large pipe of diameter 1m is used to connect two reservoirs in a city. The distance
between the two reservoirs is 2.5 km. The water level difference in the two reservoirs
is 18m. Determine the discharge and mass flow rate through the pipe. Coefficient of
friction is given as f= 0.015 and H=(4.f.L.V2)/2gd.

QUESTION 3

In a gas turbine, inlet pressure and temperature of the gas are given as 475kPa and
200 0C. The outlet pressure after expansion in the turbine is given as 125 kPa.
Determine the temperature of the gas after expansion. Assume the process is
isentropic. If the temperature of the gas has to be increased again to 180 0C in a
constant volume heat addition process, determine the heat added. Assume R=287
J/kg.K and Cp/Cv=1.4;
