Importance of Profile in MBA
What is Permutation?
Permutation relates to the act of arranging all the members of a set into some sequence or
order. In other words, if the set is already ordered, then the rearranging of its elements is
called the process of permuting. Permutations occur, in more or less prominent ways, in
almost every area of mathematics. They often arise when different orderings on certain
finite sets are considered.
What is a Combination?
The combination is a way of selecting items from a collection, such that (unlike
permutations) the order of selection does not matter. In smaller cases, it is possible to count
the number of combinations. Combination refers to the combination of n things taken k at a
time without repetition. To refer to combinations in which repetition is allowed, the terms
k-selection or k-combination with repetition are often used. Permutation and Combination
Class 11 is one of the important topics which helps in scoring well in Board Exams.
Combination Formula
A combination is the choice of r things from a set of n things without replacement and
where order does not matter.

Permutation and Combination
Probability
Probability is a measure of the likelihood of an event to occur. Many events cannot be
predicted with total certainty. We can predict only the chance of an event to occur i.e., how
likely they are going to happen, using it. Probability can range from 0 to 1, where 0 means
the event to be an impossible one and 1 indicates a certain event. Probability for Class 10 is
an important topic for the students which explains all the basic concepts of this topic. The
probability of all the events in a sample space adds up to 1.
Question
A boss decides to distribute Rs. 2000 between 2 employees. He knows X deserves more that
Y, but does not know how much more. So he decides to arbitrarily break Rs. 2000 into two
parts and give X the bigger part. What is the chance that X gets twice as much as Y or more?
a) 2/5
b) 1/2
c) 1/3
d) 2/3
Solution
Given that X lies between 1000 and 2000, what is the probability that X lies between 4000/3
and 2000
This probability is equal to ((2000-4000)/33/2000-1000 = 2/3
Correct answer: (d) 2/3

Permutation and Combination
Question
Of 22 points on a plane, 8 are on a straight line, 7 are on another straight line and 10 are on
a third straight line. How many triangles can be drawn by connecting some three points
from these 22?
a) 22C3
b) 22C3-(C3+ 7C3 +10C3)
c) 22C3+ (C+7C3 +10C3)
d) 8C+7C3 +10C3
Solution
From the 22 points on a plane we can form 22C3 triangles but it is given that 8 are on one
straight line, 7 are on another straight line and 10 more are on another straight line, so we
can form triangles on joining points which are on straight lines
So, we have to subtract (8C3+ 7C3 +10C3) from the total. Hence, we can form 22C3 - (8C3+
7C3 +10C3) triangles.
Correct answer: (b)
Question
In how many ways a committee consisting of 5 men and 3 women, can be chosen from 9
men and 12 women?
Solution
Choose 5 men out of 9 men = 9C5 ways = 126 ways
Choose 3 women out of 12 women = 12C3 ways = 220 ways
Total number of ways = (126 x 220)= 27720 ways
