inTouch HMI – How to Set Autostart of Windows and inTouch

To set in autostart the PC with inTouch the main steps are:

 Set Windows Automatic Login


 Set Windows Startup folder
 Final operations

Set Windows Automatic Login

1. Go in “Windows Start” > “Run” and type:

control userpasswords2

2. On the panel that opens, uncheck the item “Users must enter a user name and password..” then
select the user and press “Apply”:
It will be required to insert the password for automatic login.

Set Windows Startup folder

In Windows Startup folder will be placed all the shortcuts of application that need to be started ad
Windows start:

To create a Shortcut of an application:


1. Select the Executable file (*.exe) that needs to be launched
2. Press “CTRL-C” or right click and select “Copy”
3. On the desktop, right-click and select “Paste shortcut”

Then “drag and drop” this shortcut to the Windows “Startup” folder.

Applications that need to be placed usually are:

1. inTouch Viewer
2. HistData: it can be found in
Windows Start > All Programs > Wonderware > inTouch
3. OWS (Level 2 application interface)
4. IShowHide or other application used to switch between Danieli applications

Set Drivers Start as a Service

The driver should be started automatically at computer start. To do this access the SMC – System
Management Console and here right click on the used drivers and Set Auto Service mode:

Final Operations

Launching external applications from inside the HMI will activate the Windows task bar, from where the
user can access other Windows applications with concerns for safety of the plant:
To avoid this, the Windows task bar should be configured in order to autohide:

1. Right-click the Windows task bar and select “Properties”


2. In Windows XP uncheck the “Keep the taskbar on top of other windows” option

Unfortunately there is no option like this with Windows 7. The only partial solution as for now is
to check the option ‘Auto-hide’ the taskbar.
Test that all has been configured correctly rebooting the PC.
