Class Assignment 1

From the case develop a detailed job specification for the job of Associates in SG Cowen.

Step 1 • From the case fact develop the Job Specification (JS)

JOB ANALYSIS • The JS must have a detailed list of KSAs you need to look for in a job holder.
• Assign weightages to the KSAs depending on how critical they are for the job.

Time available – • Develop Indicators for each, i.e. how are you going to measure the KSAO – The parameters of
measurement. ‘Whether it is there / Not there in the person’; ‘To what extent it is present.’
15 min. E.g. if you think that a MBA is the required qualification, then what would be the minimum
percentage/grade needed; if you say that you need good communication skills then how
would you measure it - by interacting with the person in a one on one interview, using a GD,
using a test……….. etc.

OUTPUT AT THE END OF 15 min. YOUR GROUP SHOULD HAVE

• Job specification for the position, with weightages


• Indicators for measuring each of the KSA mentioned in Job Specification.
• Justification for each of the decisions/choices you have made.

Step2 Now move to the Selection process.

SELECTION • Look at the indicators and think of the steps in the selection process. Make a flow chart showing
the steps in the selection process that are used, in sequence.
▪ Identify the criteria to be measured during the selection process
Time available – ▪ Give weightages to the different criteria as per importance to the job.
20 min. ▪ What approach will you use – Compensatory or Multiple Hurdle? Why?
▪ Prepare the selection matrix for last four candidates collating all the information together to
get a final decision.
▪ Justification for your decision.
▪ Suggestion for improving Selection process at Cowen.
