BEED 2-1-2

Directions: Create an activity that will focus on teaching timbre for 3rd graders.
Follow the format below.

Name of the Activity: Sing or scream

Objectives: This activity is fun and aims to achieve the understanding of grade three
pupils to the concept of dynamics by personally making sounds with their voice.

Topic: Dynamics

Level: Grade 3

Duration: 10-15 minutes (it depends to the number of pupils.)

Materials: Just the pupil’s voice alone.

Mechanics/Instructions: The first person to start the chant begins at either a regular, or
low pitch and at a relatively slow pace. Then each consecutive person after has to
repeat the chant at a louder volume, higher pitch and faster pace.

The following are the steps and instructions on how to execute the activity:

 If the class have more than twenty pupils then group them into two, but if not,
the whole class can play the activity as one.
 Arrange them in order (either by age, by height, or others) in horizontal line
facing in-front of you (teacher.)
 Then tell them what to do: “You’ll sing a song. Every one will sing one by one, it
will start from __ (the first pupil in line), then the next beside you will be singing
next. But it will not be an ordinary singing activity. Everyone should sing the
higher key before you.”
 The game consists of taking turns repeating the same song with a higher pitch
than the previous player. The song is as follows:

“Twinkle Twinkle Little star, how I wonder what you are.”

 When the pitch is wrong, then the pupil will be eliminated. Then the game
continues until there will only one winner.

After the activity/game, the teacher should begin to discuss the lesson with a topic of
timbre, with the example of the activity they just did.
