God bless the USA

By Lee Greenwood Emme Folkerts

The piece I think would be a ceremonial context would have to be “God bless the USA”

by Lee Greenwood. this is a song that really means a lot to our country as it makes us feel very

patriotic. I would think that this song would be played on the 4th of July because it's celebrating

freedom and independence. In my experience, this song was always played at high school

football games, I believe that this song really brings people together as it celebrates our country

and makes us feel proud. It was also utilized by various politicians throughout their campaigns.

Greenwood stated that he composed the song to unite America. He had always wanted to

compose a song about it, so he did. The message was delivered to the American people through

his song "God Bless the USA," and the song became famous with it. There are few instruments

involved with this particular song. One of the instruments would include the electric keyboard

in the beginning, which leads to the contemporary piano, and in most of the melody would

include a lot of drums and violins. The melody line consisted of “I’m proud to be an

American….” the phrase itself is very important because it is supposed to let everybody know

exactly how the singer feels, which would obviously mean that the instruments are going to be

the loudest because it is the most important part of the song. Lastly I hope everybody has a

chance to listen to this song as it is so patriotic and dear to this country. It was written nearly 40

years ago, and I've never been to a that football game in my town when it was not played.

For my entertainment song, I chose life is a highway performed by Rascal Flatts. I think

this is a good song to compare to my sacred song “God bless the USA” because they are both to

make you feel good. Rascal Flatts is a classic van that pretty much everybody knows. This song is

played at any high school football event just like God bless the USA is. They are both feel good

songs but they both have different meanings. This feel good song is also used for road trips, or

just any kind of event that is supposed to make you happy. The song could make you even

happier, or make you “feel good.”
