Different Sectors in UK Economy:

There are three types of sectors in the UK economy which help businesses to operate and
create value in the economy of the United Kingdom. These sectors are primary, secondary,
and tertiary. Among all these sectors, the tertiary sector has played a vital role in the economy
of the UK (BBC, 2019). Following other details regarding all the sectors present in the
United Kingdom’s economy:
The first in the initial sector is the primary sector or primary activities. The earth’s resources
and environment including land, vegetation, water, material, rend, minerals, and many more
are associated with the primary sector. however, these are natural resources and their
availability is determined by the primary sector. These are the exploitation of natural
resources by ripping, hunting, cultivating crops, logging, mining, forestry, rearing
domesticated animals, utilizing non-renewable resources or fossil fuels, and many more
(Tejvan Pettinger, 2018). It conducts great value in the economy of the United Kingdom as
there are the largest terms of employment. Various heavy machines are used for efficiency
and to reduce the workforce. The sector constitutes more than 12% of the GDP of the UK
(Statista, 2017). The examples of the primary sector of the UK are the Coal industry. British
Steel, LS systems, Frontier Agriculture Limited, Hotbox International Ltd., Intertape Ltd.,
and Orange Forestry Ltd., etc.
The second one is the secondary sector. These activities are different from the primary sector
the products in this category are made up of the resources developed in the primary sector.
These are ready-to-use products. This sector enhances the value of natural resources by using
them to make new products for people. These products are also exported outside the country.
It includes heavy and light industries. Major secondary industries are manufacturing,
shipbuilding, construction, metalworking, chemical engineering, oil refineries, textile
production, food production, and many more. An only primitive economy depends on this
sector while the UK is not much dependent on secondary activities. The UK is known as the
first to industrialize as well as deindustrialize (Tejvan Pettinger, 2018). The key difference
between both the sectors is that the primary sector is organized while this sector is organized.
The labor in the primary sector is usually unskilled while in the secondary sector, labor is
skilled. This sector constitutes GDP of about 17% since 2019 (Statista 2019). The examples
of this sector are Aston Martin, Middlesex Textiles, Mitko, British Textile Industry, Weetabix,
and Colman's Mustard, etc.
The third sector is the tertiary sector. This sector has the greatest value in the united
kingdom’s economy as it contributes to banking, education, insurance, medical, etc. It is
widely known as a service sector in the UK. These are useful services for secondary as well
as primary sectors. The techniques of modern-day logistics are performed and used in this
sector. the employment rate is not as higher in primary and secondary; however, employment
is rising these years (Key differences, 2020). These are all known as Commercial Services
that are about distribution and production processes. It differs from primary in second please
factors because both of those sectors rely upon the tertiary sector. After all, everything is
connected in all three sectors. The employment rate is getting higher within the time. The
reason for the growth in the tertiary sector is the improvement in labor productivity, income
elasticity, globalization, technology, and more leisure time. The sector has contributed more
than 71% to the UK economy (Statista, 2017). Examples of this sector are Royal agricultural
