EN50121 standard
• Uninterruptible Power System (UPS) Conditions
• The terms first and second environment are be used in the following
classes below. The first environment includes residential, commercial, and
light industrial premises directly connected, without intermediate
transformers, to a public low-voltage mains supply. The second
environment includes all commercial, light industry, and industrial
locations other than those specified in the first environment.
• Category C1 UPS: This category includes UPS intended for use without any restriction
in the first environment. Category C1 UPS must comply with category 1 requirements
for emission limits and immunity.

• Category C2 UPS: This IEC 62040 category includes UPS intended for use without any
restriction in the second environment. This UPS is also used in the first environment
when the effect of the warning notice below is considered.

• In residential areas, this product may cause radio interference. In which case, the user
is required to take additional precautions.

• Main applications for UPS EMC C2 level are Railways, Military bases, Radar stations,
Radio and Television broadcasting sites.

• Category C3 UPS: This includes UPS with an output current exceeding 16 A and
intended for use in the second environment. C3 UPS must comply with C3
requirements for emission limits and immunity.

• Category C4 UPS: Includes UPS that cannot be classified within any of the previous
categories and intended for use in environments subject to particular requirements.

Electromagnetic field
The UPS shall meet the limits of below Table. If the reading on the measuring receiver show fluctuations close to the
limit, the reading shall be observed for at least 15 s at each measurement frequency; the highest reading shall be
recorded, except for any brief isolated high reading, which shall be ignored.
No limits apply for radiated emission below 30 MHz.
Limits of radiated emission in the frequency range 30 MHz to 1 000 MHz

NOTE 1 The test distance is 10 m. If the emission measurement at 10 m cannot be made because of high ambient noise levels or
for other reasons, measurements are made at a closer distance, for example, 3 m. An inverse proportionality factor of 20 dB per
decade is used to normalize the measured data to the specified distance for determining compliance.
NOTE 2 Additional provisions may be required for cases where interference occurs.

Powering the Railways with EXM2
• Reliable UPSs for railway applications
• international engineering projects, and a thorough understanding that safety, risk management, business
continuity and operational excellence are essential ingredients of project success. Vertiv complete support
for integrated rail solutions includes UPS systems and batteries; control and monitoring; and unmatched
rail expertise, ranging from global service solutions to turnkey project delivery.

• Vertiv UPS systems are designed to keep rail networks moving safely and promptly, and to provide
maximum reliability in a way that is energy-efficient and cost-effective. Vertiv has delivered rail-specific
power protection solutions and has extensive experience delivering and supporting standard and specific
UPS solutions for above-ground and underground rail installations around the world. Electrical noise can
appear on lines, or frequency variations, or harmonics in the voltage, but a UPS system reconciles any of
these problems by conditioning incoming power to eliminate spikes, swells, sags, noise and harmonics.

• Vertiv has a wide range of UPS systems that are used in rail networks and metro systems to ensure reliable,
stable and continuous power for many different rail applications. Vertiv UPS systems for rail match to
three-phase critical load characteristics and load power demands, ranging from a few kVA up to 1.5 MVA.
