History of Gaming planning

Final Heading and subheading choices

What game was it?

-Is it recognisable (Characters/ Mascots) A games art style, gameplay,
mechanics, music and other things can make a game recognisable and different
from the majority of games which I think is very meaningful when deciding what
the most important games are. Secondly a recognisable character or mascot
can really show what sort of impact a game made for example Pac-man, Sonic
Mario, Ellie and Joel (The last of us), Samus, Solid Snake, Trevor (GTA5) and so
on. Characters like these are what makes games people to games and can also
give them something to relate to
-What system is it for (is it cross platform or arcade?) Did the technology
help or hinder the game
-What is it called and what genre is it? Genre and title can show what the
target audience was?

Why was it important?

-Was it polished and well made? (Is there a remaster/definitive version?)
Does the game look and feel good, is it high quality and are there any bugs or
glitches. Some games have become known for their various bugs and glitches
these can become a part of the games personality and even help the game
succeed in some circumstances for example super Mario 64.
-Did it start a franchise? A franchise would mean that the game did well
financially and that the game also had a long-lasting impact in the industry and
how future games are made.
-Did it do something new or better or both? If it did something new, then it
may have been impactful to the gaming industry and therefore would be
important. It also may have improved on something that already existed which
would mean that it moved game design forward.
-How was it received (critically and generally) and did it win any
awards? This is a good way to see if a wide range of people enjoyed the game
but also if people involved in the industry also like the game.
-Gameplay and replayability? Things such as controls, peripherals and level
design can affect how enjoyable a game is to play and could discourage people
from playing if they are done badly.
-Music? Very important for the atmosphere and feeling of a game and is often
overlooked by many people.

-Is it fun? 😎

Story focused or gameplay focused? What sort of game where the

developers aiming for and did, they succeed.
Creation and development
Who made it? (Developer/Publisher?) Useful to know who specifically made
the game
Where was it made? Different countries and areas have hugely varying
beliefs, histories and societies which can have massive impacts on how games
are made and what games are like in different places.
When was it made and did that make an impact on how the game was
made? Different time periods have had different technologies and styles that
would impact what a game is like.
What inspired the creation of the game? Knowing where the idea of a
game came from gives an insight to how game developers were approaching
game design at the time of their project and what their philosophy might have
been.
