Requirements Scriptwriting is a narrative art that requires great storytelling capabilities, familiarity
with specific screenwriting formats, and an understanding of visualization, that is,
how written words are transformed into concrete sounds and images. Scriptwriting
can be divided into two basic categories: fiction and nonfiction. Many feature films,
television series, miniseries, serials, made-for-TV movies, interactive games, and
animated productions originated from works of fiction, and most documentaries,
news programs, commercials, corporate videos, and interactive educational or
training productions are works of nonfiction.

One page of script is equivalent to one minute of duration in a short film.

For this assignment, students are required to write 5 to 10 minutes of screenplay
(5 to 10 pages of script).
Assessment requirements:
1. Treatment
2. Narrative Structure
3. Screenplay/ Script
4. Shooting Script (in tables)
5. Storyboard Layout

Think About Your Theme:

The secret to developing a good story is by understanding why you want to tell that
story. So after you have that idea and it seems to spark interest in the people you
pitch dig deeper to find your theme. What bigger idea can you explore?

Your theme is the underlying idea of your story. It might be a story about a dyslexic
kid that wins a spelling bee, but the theme might be “overcoming obstacles.” When
you improve on a theme, you bring yourself closer to your audience because you are
sharing your unique perspective of the human condition.

• Students should deliver the first draft to a fellow student for feedback about
narrative and production requirements. Students will need to consider/
revise according to the feedback given in class.
