Course Intended Learning Outcomes (CILOs)

CILO By the end of the course, students should be able to:


CILO 1 Produce industry standard perspective drawings, plans and elevations in retail and
exhibition environments;
CILO 2 Show digital illustrative skills required by the VM industry;
CILO 3 Integrate the elements and principles of design and apply them to the exterior and
interior of retail spaces;
CILO 4 Recognize the range of processes employed in the exhibition industry;

Teaching and Learning Activities (TLAs)


CILOs TLAs will include the following:
CILO1, CILO2, Lectures
CILO3, CILO4 Lecture sessions will introduce visual merchandising drawing and planning
& CILO5 concepts. By actively participating in practical exercises, students will learn
the principles, theories, aesthetics and skills of effective visual
merchandising drawing and planning.
CILO1, CILO2, Individual and group tutorials
CILO3, CILO4 Individual and group tutorials are arranged for intensive discussion on
& CILO5 students’ ideas and design processes.
CILO3 & Case studies
CILO4 Class discussions on topics such as innovative visual merchandising
planning through case studies and campaign analyses.
CILO1, Continuous hands-on studio
CILO2, Continuous hands-on studio work under the guidance of the instructor to
CILO3, & develop the required skills for visual merchandising drawing and planning.

material, design of prop, window graphic etc.

design in form of technical file.
4. A 2D floor plan of the window displays.
5. ONE prop from window display for
production
6. ONE 3D feature wall of the store
7. TWO furniture for the store

The proposal should be in form of PDF file


made with Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop

Group project 40% 1,2,3,4,5 A new popup store is going to be setup. Groups
are required to create a proposal for the design
idea and production drawing. The proposal is
presented in the final lesson.
Group 10% 3-5 Student’ engagement and level of participation
presentation will be assessed through class discussions and
workshops in the course.

Task name: Individual assignment


Task description:
A concept will be picked up for the theme of a retail window and
store display. Students are required to select a brand and create a
proposal for the concept.

Mood board + theme board + material board + 2D overall window


design + ONE graphic sticker + 2D floor plan + ONE 3D prop +
ONE feature wall + TWO furniture
(Organized into ONE PDF file with the name A1student name)

Word limit: With no less than 9 pages

Task name: Group Project


Task description:
Students are required to select a fashion or lifestyle brand. A new
popup store of the selected brand is going to be setup. Students are
going to create a proposal for the design idea and production
drawing. The proposal is presented in the final lesson. The proposal
should be submitted and presented in format of PDF.
Task weight: 40%
Submission date: Lesson 12 Presentation; Softcopy hand in by Moodle, one week
after Lesson 12 11/3/2022

Task name: Group presentation


Task description: An oral plus visual presentation of the group project will be held
at the final lesson. Presentation will be assessed on students’
ability to find and organize research materials that extend to the
core topics of the lecture series in the course, as well as on their
ability to express and communicate clearly about their work.
Task weight: 10 %
