Revised COMPLIANCE instructions to encourage sys- tematic compliance during normal maintenance or inspection shop visits. <~wourirozrea ‘This Service Bulletin is being issued to remove ceramic fiber paper, if installed, trom selected areas of aircraft structure. This paper could retain moisture which may contribute to corrosion or hinder routine inspection of underlying components. To eliminate these pos sibilities, ceramic paper insulation should be removed when access is afforded to the affected areas and replaced with metal heat deflector shields where heat protection is required. Ceramic paper removal may be accomplished systematically during normal mainte~ nance intervals provided that all paper is removed within the time frame stated in COMPLI- ANCE, The instructions required to remove the bleed air line failure warning system have been provided due to cancellation of BEECHCRAFT Service instructions No. 0722-456, Rev. Discoloration of the paper may be caused by external environmental condi- tions and engine heat. Corrosion may be found in any area where ceramic fiber paper exists. Cleanup procedures herein ‘are given for the spar cap only NOTE Airplane serials U-165 through U-239 and serials BE-1 through BE-137 require ceramic fiber paper removal, but do not require Installation of Kit No. 90-5069-1 S (Heat Deflector Shield Installation), as these airplanes require the bleed air warn- ing system to remain intact. 1. Complete removal of ceramic fiber paper ADHE- SIVE residue is not required, however, it is recommended that any loose or flaking adhesive residue be removed. Remove ALL TRACES of ceramic fiber paper. Ceramic fiber paper should be found generally along the routing of ‘This Service Bulletin may be accomplished as follows: the pneumatic and/or environmental tubing, but may be found in othor areas. Pay special attention to the following areas in the nacelle a. on the exposed webs from the firewall aft to the main spar; b. the wheel well on the main spar web and the top of lower spar flange. 2. Perform a visual inspection of areas where ceramic fiber paper was removed and, if required, establish an ‘approximation of corrosion depth. If no corrosion is dis ‘covered, proceed to Step 6. Final determination of corro- sion depth must be made after cleanup has been accom- plished. 3. If corrosion is evident on the spar cap flange but does not exceed .020 inch deep, proceed as follows: a._ Using dry, HAND sanding techniques only (D0 NOT USE POWER TOOLS), remove all corrosion residue land corrosion pits from the surface of the spar cap flange. It is recommended that 150 grit aluminum oxide abrasive paper or cloth be used for initial cleanup. DO NOT USE SILICON CARBIDE ABRASIVE ON ALUMINUM. b. As cleanup progresses, increasingly finer abrasives should be used. Finish with 400 grit. Cleanup is complete when all visible evidence of corrosion residue Sot7 Service Bulletin No. 2267, Rev. I! and all corrosion pits have been removed from the sur- face NOTE IF UNUSUAL CONDITIONS ARE FOUND WHICH CANNOT BE RESOLVED LOCALLY, CONTACT BEECHCRAFT CUS- TOMER SUPPORT FOR FINAL DETERMI- NATION. © Using @ depth cial gage or similar suitable device, measure the amount of material removed from the flange surface during corrosion cleanup. If corrosion is more than .020 inch deep, proceed with Step 4 or 5 as applicable. d. Using procedures described in the Boech Air~ craft Corporation Structural Inspection and Repair Man- vual (P/N 98-39006), conduct @ fluorescent penetrant inspection, on the spar cap flange for cracks. The inspec- tion should include the complete corrosion removal cleanup areas ©. Apply Alodine 1200, 12008 or 1201 (obtain locally) to all bare surfaces of the spar cap in the area of the cleanup. Allow the Alodine to dwell for approximately five minutes. After the dwell time has elapsed, wash the treated areas with water and blow dry (do not wipe dry) Paint the treated areas with a corrosion resistant primer. 4._ tf corrosion on the spar cap flange is approximately 0.020 to 0.085 inch deep, proceed as follows: a. Accomplish Steps Sd and 3e and install the appropriate spar reinforcement kit listed in MATERIAL. 5. If corrosion on the spar cap flange exceeds 0.085 inch, contact BEECHCRAFT Customer Support. 6. Install Kit No 90-5069-1 $ and install the access plates and fairing which were removed to facilitate this inspection. NOTE Kit No, 90-5069-1 S (Heat Deflector Shield Installation) must be installed on airplanes affected by this Service Bulletin, even if Ceramic fiber paper and corrosion is not discovered, however, airplanes which are equipped with factory installed polyflo tub- ing for the bleed air warning system are not required to accomplish the installation of Kit No. €0-5069-1 S.
