! ! ! IMPORTANT ! ! !

Working with DMC-1 and DMC-3

DMC-1 and DMC-3 can now co-exist on the same computer. No

new data should be entered into the DMC-1 program
(ULTRA.BAT). The data in DMC-1 should be used for archival
or referral purposes only.

All new data being transferred goes into the DMC-3 program
(DMC3.BAT).

If any old data is needed from previous studies, it must be

retrieved from DMC-1. This data can be used to compare against
current DMC-3 data or manually inputted as a new study into
DMC-3.

GE MEDICAL SYSTEMS DMC - 3 INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS
REV 6 DIRECTION 46-030627

Introduction This manual describes the procedure to install the Data Management Center-3
software, using the 2133397 Installation Kit as well as the steps necessary
to upgrade a previous DMC version to DMC - 3 using the H4400RS (2133398)
and H4400TT (2157714) kits and instructions to have DMC-1 and DMC-3
co-exist on the same computer.

This manual will also include installation instructions for a generic computer.

This software may be used with a RT 3200, RT 3200 Advantage, RT 3200

Advantage II/III, RT 4000, LOGIQ™ 400, LOGIQ™ 500 and LOGIQα200. To
use this software with an RT 3200 or an RT 3200 Advantage, the optional
Serial Port Upgrade, H4008SP, must be installed on the RT 3200.

It is recommended that this entire installation manual be read and

understood before beginning the installation.

Perform each step in sequence to avoid problems. If a problem does occur,

recheck all steps. If rechecking does not solve the problem, contact
Headquarters OnLine Center for assistance.

DMC - 3 Software Installation.

PC Workstation Installation GEMS supplied computer hardware comes tested and loaded with software.
Installation is mainly unpacking the components and attaching the appropri-
ate cable to the correct port on the hardware. Computer hardware changes
from time to time. This procedure does not provide details of hardware
specific installations. It only shows a generic configuration. Refer to the PC
owner's manual for details on specific hardware installations.

(1) ____ Remove the computer and accessories from the cartons and
inspect for physical damage. If damage is apparent, report all
findings to the On Line Center.

(2) ____ Insure the following cables are available:

a) PC Power Cable
b) Keyboard Cable
c) Monitor Power Cable and Signal Cable
d) Printer Power Cable and Signal Cable (if applicable)
e) Isolated serial data cable

GEMS supplied computers have symbols on the respective ports

which the cables go to for the monitor, keyboard and mouse.

(3) ____ Position the computer in place.

CAUTION The computer and printer must be at least six (6) feet away from the
ultrasound system.

Interface Cable Installation (1) ____ Install the special Serial Port Cable between the computer
(Yellow Dot) and the ultrasound system using the serial connec-
tors on the back of the units.

The cable adapters are included in the H4400SW software kit. The adapter
accommodates multiple connector combinations with computer hardware. If
necessary, use the 9 pin to 25 pin adapter on the serial data cable going to
the computer.

NOTE: The serial data cable is opto-isolated and limits the ultrasound
system to safe leakage current levels. Do not use any other type
of serial data cable.

NOTE: GEMS hardware comes configured for the program's Sentinel

Key to be installed in the Parallel Printer port (Red Dot). The
isolated data cable from the Ultrasound system is installed in the
computer's serial port labeled COM2. This is the recommended
configuration. If required, this configuration can be changed in
the DMC - 3 software program. Refer to Appendix D of the
DMC - 3 Operator Manual for details.
