Introduction This manual describes the procedure to install the Data Management Center-3
software, using the 2133397 Installation Kit as well as the steps necessary
to upgrade a previous DMC version to DMC - 3 using the H4400RS (2133398)
and H4400TT (2157714) kits and instructions to have DMC-1 and DMC-3
co-exist on the same computer.
This manual will also include installation instructions for a generic computer.
Parts Required To complete the initial installation of the software and connection to the
Ultrasound system, the 2133397 software installation kit is required. The kit
consists of the following parts:

PC Workstation Installation GEMS supplied computer hardware comes tested and loaded with software.
Installation is mainly unpacking the components and attaching the appropri-
ate cable to the correct port on the hardware. Computer hardware changes
from time to time. This procedure does not provide details of hardware
specific installations. It only shows a generic configuration. Refer to the PC
owner's manual for details on specific hardware installations.
(1) ____ Remove the computer and accessories from the cartons and
inspect for physical damage. If damage is apparent, report all
findings to the On Line Center.

d) Printer Power Cable and Signal Cable (if applicable)
e) Isolated serial data cable
CAUTION The computer and printer must be at least six (6) feet away from the
ultrasound system.

(4) ____ Position the keyboard in place. Install the keyboard cable
between the computer and keyboard. See Illustration 2.

(6) ____ Make sure the power switches are in the off position on the
computer, monitor and printer. Install the AC power cord between
the computer and the wall outlet.

Interface Cable Installation (1) ____ Install the special Serial Port Cable between the computer
(Yellow Dot) and the ultrasound system using the serial connec-
tors on the back of the units.
The cable adapters are included in the H4400SW software kit. The adapter
accommodates multiple connector combinations with computer hardware. If
necessary, use the 9 pin to 25 pin adapter on the serial data cable going to
the computer.
NOTE: The serial data cable is opto-isolated and limits the ultrasound
system to safe leakage current levels. Do not use any other type
of serial data cable.

NOTE: The adapter 2157263 is used to connect the special serial port
cable to a LOGIQ™ 500 serial port.
NOTE: Refer to the Printer Operator Manual for Printer unpacking and
installation.
(1) ____ Position printer in place. Install the AC Power cable to the printer
and the wall outlet. Install the printer data cable (DB25 to 36 pin
Centronics) between the computer parallel port sentinel key and
the printer. Insert the printer paper as necessary.

Computer Functional Check Out (1) ____ Once cables are installed, the system should be tested. On
power up, the computer will run self diagnostics and report any
problems encountered. If a problem is encountered, recheck the
work performed. Refer to the DMC 3 Operator Manual Appendix
B, Appendix E and the computer owner's manual for help in
localizing a problem. If a problem persists, call the On Line
Center for support.
DMC Program Configuration Although your computer is already loaded with Data Management Center
software, the program presets need to be configured to select the type of
printer, doctor or hospital name and type of scanner being used.
UConfig Setup:
PRINTER SELECTION
Use the Up/Down arrows to Select Printer (backlight) and press Enter.
Use the Up/Down arrows to select the desire printer type and press Enter.
SELECT SCANNER
Use the Up/Down arrows to select (backlight) Select Scanner and press
Enter.
Select GE Scanner and press Enter.
Select the commmunications port used in the PC, Comm1 or Comm2. This
depends on where you connected the serial port cable to the PC.
EXIT TO DOS
Use the Up/Down arrows to select (backlight) Exit to DOS and press Enter.
NOTE: This is a limited user setup. See the DMC User Manual for
customer configuration.

The DMC - 3 program disk can be used as many times as needed and can be
installed on other computers. However, the program will not run without the
Sentinel Key.
a. Enter the following instructions from the DOS command line prompt,
which is usually "C:>".
A: <Press Enter>
INSTALL <Press Enter>
1. Click on "File"
2. Click on "Run"
3. Enter A:INSTALL into the blank area
4. Click on "OK"
5. Follow the DMC installation instructions on the computer screen.
To establish an icon in Windows 3.x from the program manager for DMC-1 and
DMC 3:

The following steps MUST be followed to make the DMC run "full screen" in
Win95:
19. Right click on the DMC1 or DMC3 icon that appears on the desktop
20. Click on "Properties" from the local menu
21. Click on "Screen" tab
22. Click on "Full Screen" under Usage
23. Click on "OK"
24. Click on "Program" tab
25. Click on "Advance", Click on "MS-DOS Mode"
26. Click on "Use Current MS-DOS Config", Click "OK"
27. Ensure that "Warn before entering DOS mode" is not selected
28. Repeat the process for the other newsly created icon.

Functional Check Out (1) ____ The DMC - 3 program is started from the Applications menu in
Windows by double clicking the mouse on the DMC - 3 icon. (In
WIN 3.1 it can also be started from DOS by changing to the
ULTRA directory and typing ULTRA.)
(2) ____ To ensure complete and coherent data transfer from the Ultra-
sound system to the computer, enter the OB Report Page on the
Ultrasound system (see the User Manual for details) and the
main menu of the DMC - 3 program.
(4) ____ From the DMC - 3 program main menu, enter LIST PATIENTS.
Verify that the patient file transfer was completed.
(5) ____ Select ENTER/EDIT Patient Data in the DMC - 3 program. Use
the patient ID created on the Ultrasound system OB Report
Page.
(6) ____ Ensure that the DMC - 3 patient data is the same as the
Ultrasound system OB report page.
(7) ____ Press Escape to the return to the DMC - 3 main menu. Select
VIEW/PRINT patient data. Select and send the file to the printer.
(8) ____ Fill out the proper customer information on the Product Locator
Installation Card. See Illustration 10.
Working with DMC-1 and DMC-3 DMC-1 and DMC-3 can now co-exist on the same computer. No new data
should be entered into the DMC-1 program (ULTRA.BAT). The data in DMC-1
should be used for archival or referral purposes only.
All new data being transferred goes into the DMC-3 program
(c:\ultra25\ultra.exe).
If any old data is needed from previous studies, it must be retrieved from
DMC-1. This data can be used to compare against current DMC-3 data or
manually inputted as a new study into DMC-3.
