Merits and De-merits

Merits

More rigidity due to steel structure

 Manufactured with standard materials
 Manufactured with simple welding process
Can be kept clean by re-painting etc.
No wear and tear of trolley parts due to frequent
loading / unloading

De-merits

 No flexibility
 Trolley self weight is high
Part damage in terms of scratches and dents
 More time for rework
 Difficult in maintenance
 Required skilled labor
Not possible to re-use after dismantling

TVSM / PED / MSE / MHSE Slide 53

Alternate design

Modular trolley design

Objective:
 Create flexibility in design
 Reduce variety of material usage
 Easy of manufacturing
No skill required for dismantling / servicing
Less space is required for storage after dismantling
 Re-usable

Merits and De-merits

Merits
 More flexibility
 Easy to assemble and dis-assemble
 Easy to modify
 Easy maintenance
 Easy to store

De-merits
Part rubbing with metal tubes and clamps
Required frequent maintenance / sleeve replacement
Not recommended for heavy weight parts due to less
rigidity

Alternate design

Modular trolley design with ABS coated steel tubes

Objective:
 Create flexibility in design
 Reduce variety of material usage
 Easy of manufacturing
 Eliminate part rubbing / scratches

ABS (Acrylonitrile butadiene styrene), is one of the most common plastics on the market.

ABS is a mix of acrylonitrile (15 to 35%), butadiene (5 to 30%) and styrene (40 to 60%).

It is available either as a copolymer or as a blend (a mix of the finished polymers).

Depending on the proportions of the three components, plastics with different properties,

such as density, hardness or tensile strength, can be produced.
