An amazing musician

1 When she was five, Jennifer Pike’s parents gave her a violin. ‘The first time she played it, we
knew that she was talented,’ says her father Jeremy. Jeremy is a music teacher in Manchester,
England. ‘She actually played the violin beautifully.’
2 Jennifer started violin lessons. She soon learned to play the violin very well. She started
playing in music competitions. She won many of them. People were amazed at how
beautifully she could play the violin. ‘Jennifer thought that other musicians were very tall,’
says her mother Teresa. ‘But that’s because she was much younger than the others!’
3 In 2002, Jennifer won a very important competition. She won the England’s Young Musician
of the Year competition. Jennifer was only twelve years old. 'The other young musicians were
aged nineteen and twenty! It was very exciting,’ Jennifer said.
4 Jennifer practises the violin for three hours everyday. She enjoys it. But she also enjoys doing
other things. She likes writing. She likes listening to pop music. Jennifer also likes doing
sports. But she has to be careful not to hurt her hands since her main interest is to play the violin.
5 In 2012, she graduated with First Class Honours from Oxford University and now she is one
of the most famous and successful violinists in the world.
