You are on page 1of 3

Ronald,

These are the Formations, Before you can get to the plays, you have to know three things in Football
and this is very important on the College and Professional levels to be successful.

1) Know what to do---Personnel, How and Where to Line up

2) Know how to do it---Techniques

3) Go do it---learn and Execute The play called

All 3 have to be done by repetition both Outside of practice and During practice. Since we have time, I
am going to start you off with Number 1. These sheets contain the Personnel and Formations.

The first thing you have to learn is to know where your right side and left side is located. If you know
your right from your left you have the basic concept down.

We are a Field Team on Offense, which means the Field (Which is the Wide Side of the Field) when
the ball is placed on either the Right or Left Hash, we will have more receivers to the Wide Side of the
Field. We will never have more receivers to the Boundary (The Short Side of the Field) when the Ball
is placed on the Hash. This eliminates us from calling the formation right or left. VERY IMPORTANT
TO ALWAYS REMEMBER.

If the Ball is placed in the Middle of the Field, then we will have more receivers to the side of the
throwing hand of the Quarterback. For example, if the Quarterback is Right Handed, then the Field
will be to the Right.

How we will call plays will be the following:

Personnel

1) Motion (If we have a Motion Call)

2) Formation
3) The Play

Personnel Groupings:
The first sheet is our Basic Set of Personnel Groupings, I want you to learn these First and as the
weeks go on, I will send you information on some more that is not listed.

The First thing to note is that on Each personnel we will how many people at each skill position
is needed on that particular personnel. If you look at the basic personnel groupings there is a
Wide Receiver used in everyone of these Personnel Groups. It can be as little as one and as
many as 5. What I would do is learn your position and do not worry about how many the RB’s or
TE’s are in each group. We only want you to learn your position, you will pick up these other
ones just by learning your position. So do not worry about learning any other position.

Motions:
We will not include any motions yet

Formations:
The Formations are part of the personnels called, some personnel may one formation and other
may have more than one, so I am going to give you the personnel with formation below and
please study them. By both writing it down and also lining up in it on your own.
One thing to Remember and ver y important as a Wide Receiver: We do not have an X, Q, or Z
Receiver. The Only Receiver we have with a Letter is our slot Receiver and that is going to be
called T and Will explain that to you in the coming weeks. So, if you are lined up on the right
side regardless if you are in the Field or boundary side regardless if the Ball is placed on the
Right Hash, Left Hash, or Middle of the Field stay on that side unless the formation requires
you to more or the Offensive Coordinator tells you to move.

Below I am going to list the Basic Personnel and then the Formation(s):
