Philosophy
● The Flexbone offense demands teamwork and selflessness. Every player is
a piece in something greater.
● In today's Spread dominated game, teams don’t see triple option regularly so it
can be a nightmare to prepare for.
● At the root of the offense is the fact with the triple option, you don’t have to
block at least two players on the play side. Your offense cancels them by the very
play you are running.
● In the Flexbone offense you don’t need big guys to be effective. You need
guys who are selfless, smart, and aggressive.
● When the offense is executed correctly you can compete with anyone. No
matter what the defense does, there is always an answer.
● We are always in search of the big play.
Personnel
● We place guys in the position where they can best
benefit the team.
● We require them to be selfless and have an open
mind.
● Most of our Offensive Tackles for example, were
either Fullbacks or Wide Receivers at one time.
Tackles
● Usually retired Fullbacks and Wide Receivers.
● We look for smart, quick guys.
● They don’t have to be huge. Last year our tackles both
weighed less than 170 pounds. One was an A back and
one was a WR last year.
● These are generally guys that deserve to be on the field
but they don’t fit anywhere else.
Guards

● This is where we put our big boys.

● “Road Graders” (if we have them)
● They need to be athletic enough to pull.
Center
● This is where we put our best lineman.
● Your smartest lineman.
● He makes most of the calls and sets
protections.
Practice Script
1. Tackle (Hawk Tackle) - 10 Minutes
2. Special Teams - 10 Minutes
3. Split Time (Pods/Defensive Alignment) - 15 Minutes and
Switch (30 Min. Total) ½ offensive / ½ defensive time
4. Defensive Indy - 15 Minutes
5. Team Defense - 20-25 Minutes
6. Offensive Indy - 20 Minutes
7. Halfline/Goal Line (8 - 10 Plays Live) - 15 Minutes
8. Team Offense - 40 Minutes
PODS drill (half line option drill)
● 3-5-up Defense moves to a spot (LB steps up or scrapes
● 0-4i-x (x))
● 1-5-x
● Shade-5-up Read keys step upfield or turn inside for B back

We get to spend time on Reads and correct

(we use the old technique steps, body position and assignments
numbering system)
We cover almost any defense that we could see
0-shade - 1-2-3 - 4i-4-5 etc.
Lineman Camp (prior to summer Team Camp)
Usually about 3.5 hours long.

This give me a chance to spend a few minutes to introduce

and practice most of the techniques and steps that we will
be using throughout the year.

We do this without pads and in a low key manner.

Pull (half line) 2 steps w/same foot (back & into hole), eyes to upfield armpit

Pass Pro (slide-gap) slide step backside (covered-short / long if uncovered) eyes to gap

Base step 6” straight ahead w/playside foot (& PPro) eyes to playside #

Double Teams (bag) “Ace” & “Buster” (Shoulders/Hips together) eyes to LB

Offensive practice script
Ensures that we cover a variety of plays and fronts/stunts

Allows us to make sure that we cover the defenses that we believe

we will see that week

**Makes us more efficient and we can run more plays during

offensive team period in the time we have (no huddle)

No Huddle System
I like the no huddle because it lets us run more
plays in practice in our limited time
How we call plays

3. Play Tag or Dummy Tag
