EXAMPLE 2 For a particular transistor, ℎ𝑖 = 1𝑘𝛺, ℎ𝑟 = 4𝑥10-4, ℎ𝑓 = 50,


and ℎ𝑜 = 25µ𝑠. Determine the current and the voltage gain if 𝑍𝐿 is a 2𝑘Ω
resistive load.

The minus sign simply indicates a phase shift of


180° between E2 and E1 for the defined
polarities in Fig.

• The input impedance can always be determined by the ratio of


the input voltage to the input current with or without a load
applied.
• The output impedance is always determined with the source
voltage or current set to zero.

For the output impedance, we will set the source voltage to


zero but preserve its internal resistance 𝑅𝑠 as shown
