ACTIVITY #2

1. State arguments for and against the following statement: there are other things
more valuable in an organization besides the people who work there.

- “In an organization.” Think of that phrase. Have you ever seen an org chart for an
organization that contained anything other than “people who work there”? The
argument against your assertion is that it contradicts the plain meaning of the words.
By definition, an organization consists of the people work there. Without people there
is no organization. People understand the processes that take place to keep the
organization functioning.

2. OUT Of the seven tasks an HR manager does, which do you think is the most
challenging? Why?

- Of the seven tasks an HR manager performs, retention may be the most challenging,
because retention has become tougher than any time in the past and has become a
heightened issue. Companies sometimes need to offer more in terms of benefit
packages or incentives, because people increasingly look for jobs that reduce their
risks in tough economic times. Employees are inherently diverse and may form a
complex workforce, posing a challenge for the management in finding common
ground. Even with solid strategies to ensure great employee experience, a few
employees may still become disengaged as the programs don’t motivate them.
