LyricsTraining

Lyricstraining is a free language learning service that combines music videos from

YouTube with the lyrics of those songs. Students can almost unconsciously improve

their English learning skills by playing a game. This sharpens their ears, allows them

to recognize different accents and registers, familiarizes them with expressions and

set phrases, and, most importantly, expands their vocabulary and disinhibits them

when it comes to expressing themselves.

How is it work?

Once on the lyricsTraining page or in the App, students can select a music video

from the YouTube page as well as their level of difficulty: easy, medium, or hard.

When the video begins, the song's lyrics appear below, with some words omitted.

The students must fill in the blanks with the missing words as they sing. If they get

stuck, the video pauses until they can get the word out, but they cannot stay for a

long time because it counts the time it takes to fill in the gaps with the missing words!

If they don't know the word, they can hit the "Give Up!" button and move on to the

next.

For a long time, this app has been one of my favorites because it is gamified, so

while they are listening to the song, the music stops at the end of each line and they

have a time limit to fill in the missing words and they can choose the level of

difficulty.

Furthermore, using songs in this type of text reconstruction activity allows

students to listen to them multiple times without becoming bored.
