History of Potato Crisps

invented?

In 1853, George Crum (2) as the head chef at a restaurant in Saratoga, New York,

USA. One day, Crum (3) in the kitchen when a customer (4) that his chips

were too thick and didn’t taste of anything. Crum was angry, and decided to make some

chips that were the complete opposite. First, he (5) potatoes into extremely thin slices.

Then, after he (6) them, he (7) them with lots of salt.

To Crum’s surprise, the customer (8) the crisps, and they became a local speciality. In

fact, they were so successful that a few years later Crum opened his own restaurant with the

money he (9) from his invention.
