1.

If you are given a choice between multiple design options to be a potential solution to a
problem, what steps would you follow to make an
informed decision about the best option? Can you provide an example of a time you
employed these techniques? First, I would evaluate the customers need to make sure
that each design met the requirements. I would then break down each design to view
what trade-offs were made for each design. A financial analysis would need to be
completed to see if every design present was feasible. I used this same method in my
FSE 100 course while designing a humanitarian support aircraft for wildfire aid.

2. What do you think are the most important things to consider when designing a brand
new product? I think the single most important thing is the customers needs and how
they will interact with your product.

3. Tell me about a time when you had difficulties understanding a new concept. How did
you handle the situation, and how did you overcome the obstacles? In my course I was
tasked with designing an aircraft that could support disasters. I did not know much about
aircraft so digesting all the new information seemed daunting but through design
processes and using different learning techniques that I have built over my years I was
able to learn the material and created an aircraft that could successfully handle wildfire
disasters.

4. What is your greatest strength as an engineer, or future employee? Can you tell me a
specific situation where this strength can be seen? I think my greatest skill is my ability
to think about the customer and provide solutions that will satisfy their needs but also
make sense from a financial standpoint.

5. What "Systems Engineering" skills do you feel you have gained after this semester?
Which of these skills do you feel will help you the most in
obtaining an engineering career? The ability to take input from outside my speciality but
still be able to connect to the customer.

6. Explain several pitfalls you encountered during the design process where you had to
change your project from your original idea. What were
the trade-offs that came with changing your design? My original idea was halted when I
started thinking about how the stakeholders would be affected by my design choices.
The end goal is to supply the customer with a solution that will work for them not against
them.

7. Can you describe to me any unique projects or ideas that you personally created, and
how you came up with those ideas? My favorite project was creating a saddle with
automated feature that would allow homeowners to receive notifications when a water
line leak was detected. The idea spawned from a past event and how it left me feeling.

8. Outside of technical engineering, are there any soft skills that you feel you can contribute
to a team? What are they, and can you provide some
specific examples of where those soft skills were demonstrated? Some of the soft skills I
possess is the ability to adapt to almost every situation. Working with others is also a
skill that I say I excel at.

9. Out of all the topics and projects, which activity do you feel you learned the most that will
help you with your future success? Why? I believe that learning to read and write code
will help me the most as this world evolves and more things become automated.

10. What areas of engineering or society do you find fascinating, that you could envision
being a part of your future career? Why do these areas
interest you? What do you hope to change or achieve in these areas? Natural gas
industry has always been an eyebrow raise for me. This area interest me because it is
what heats my home, but pipeline systems are under utilized and can be used to move
other goods. I hope to broaden the idea of what we can push through a pipeline which
will reduce traffic and emissions.
