CHAPTER 5

SUMMARY, CONCLUSION & RECOMMENDATIONS

This chapter summarizes the important results of the study, of which conclusions

and recommendations are derived.

The overall result shows that the respondents have a high support system.

according to the result, the parents play the most important role in the respondent's

support system through financial and moral support followed by friends and teachers.

Although language proficiency can be one of the major concerns to those who study

abroad, the respondents' level of language proficiency falls on neither high or low which

can also be understood as neutral and the result also shows that respondents have a high

level of adaptability thus not very high.

According to the finding of the researchers, most of the factor influencing the

student's level of adaptability has no significant difference. The researchers were able to

find a significant difference between the age of the respondents and the respondents’

social support. Another finding the researchers were able to conclude is the significant

difference between language proficiency and the respondent's number of years staying in

the Philippines. As for the correlation between support system and language proficiency

to adaptability, the researchers found no significant correlation thus the null hypothesis is

accepted.

Conclusion

This study looked at the factors influencing the level of adaptability of the

International dental student in the Philippines. A comprehensive range of responses were

collected to assess the impact of different demographic variables like gender, ethnic

group, mode of support, number of staying in the Philippines. This is also a study of the

relationship between the independent variables which are, support system and language

proficiency to the dependent variables which is adaptability. The study was conducted

with 72 respondents and employed a quota sampling technique to test the hypotheses.

The collected data were then analyzed with the statistician technique like mean, standard

deviation, t-test, One-way Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) and coefficient of correlation.

The study was aimed to help in understanding the factors that may affect the level of

adaptability of the student while studying abroad to achieve better academic success.

Though many of the finding of the research shows that there is no significant

difference between the variables with the support system, language proficiency and

adaptability but two major conclusions can be drawn is the number of years staying in the

Philippines can affect students’ language proficiency and the age of the student can affect

their level of social support. Finding revealed that the longer the stay, the higher the

language proficiency. This means that the longer student stays in the Philippines, the

better they are with their linguistic knowledge and the older the student is the more stable

their social support is.

Recommendations

In the view of the findings and conclusion recited in this research, the researcher

recommends the following:

1. For the Support System of Dental International students be improved to reach the

highest possible mark which is very high especially on the area where teachers see

potential in them and that their teachers care about how they do in school.

2. That the Dental International students will be assisted in learning Tagalog words by

putting them in groups with Filipino students and making a booklet with the usual

English words or phrase translated to Tagalog to assist them in communicating to their

patients.

4. For mentorship program to be implemented in the dental schools.

5. For seminar programs for the teachers to be oriented on the cultures of the dental

international students to have a better interaction with them.

6. For further researches, wider respondents can be applied and the other variables that

International dental student consider as a barrier can be investigated to achieve a better

academic performance while studying abroad.
