Conclusion

Based on the findings of the study entitled Language Barriers to English

Proficiency: A Study of the Challenges Encountered by HUMSS Students the

researchers found out that most of the participants’ age were ranging from 14-17

years old. Also, the ethnic profile of the participants, majority are Bisaya. In terms

of number of sexes, there are more cis-male. Furthermore, the researcher found

out the Extent of language barriers in learning English, from physical,

psychological, and social barriers were rated as neutral this suggests, that while

these factors are present to some degree, they do not exert a significant

influence on language learning outcomes. However, it is important to note that

even though they are rated as neutral, they still have some impact on effective

linguistic interactions. The findings highlight the need for interventions and

support mechanisms to make language learning resources more accessible and

affordable. By reducing the financial burden associated with private classes,

individuals will have enhanced opportunities to improve their English language

skills and overcome language barriers. Lastly, it is important to note that while the

challenges faced by the participants are not overwhelmingly pronounced, they

still have an impact on their language learning journey. Efforts should be made to

address these challenges and provide support to enhance proficiency and

confidence in English communication.

Recommendations

Based from the conclusion, the following recommendation are suggested:

1. Pronunciation Resources: Providing access to pronunciation resources,

such as audio recordings or online tools, can assist students in practicing

and improving their pronunciation skills independently.

2. Speech Therapy Programs: Schools should consider implementing

speech therapy programs to support students who struggle with

pronunciation or articulation. These programs can provide targeted

interventions to improve students' speech skills.

3. Implementing differentiated instruction strategies allows teachers to

address the unique needs of students with varying language proficiency

levels. Providing additional support and personalized feedback can help

students build confidence and overcome psychological language barriers.

4. Counseling Services: Offering counseling services that focus on language-

related challenges can provide students with a safe space to express their

concerns and receive guidance. School counselors can also work with

teachers to develop strategies to support students' emotional well-being.

5. Cultural Exchange Activities: Organizing cultural exchange activities, such

as language clubs or multicultural events, allows students to share their

languages and cultures. This fosters an inclusive environment and

promotes understanding and acceptance among students with different

language backgrounds.
