COMMENTS: Art7 - Final

1=It has been a pleasure to teach #N. I wish #m all the best for the following
years.
2=A very impressive year. Well done #N!
3=Overall, an impressive year - keep up the good work!
4=Overall, a very good year. Well done #N!
5=Overall, a good year.
6=A reasonable year overall - but #N needs to work on #h areas of weakness next
year.
7=In preparation for next year, I would recommend practicing elements of drawing in
#h own time; such as observational drawing, focusing on attention to detail and
shading.

COMMENTS: Improve on
1=In preparation for next year, I would recommend practicing elements of drawing in
#h own time; such as observational drawing, focusing on attention to detail and
shading.
2=To improve, should find out, as an extension task, about how famous artists have
used similar materials which will be very useful later on.
3=To improve, #N should continue to practice elements of drawing in #h own time;
focusing on attention to detail and shading.
4=To improve, should practice again the exercises in the elements of drawing in #h
own time; with particular attention to detail and shading.
5=To improve, should try to listen to directions more attentively during lessons.
6=To improve, should try to be more attentive during instructions and lessons.
7=To improve, should try to use time wisely to finish tasks in the time required.
8=To improve, should show by the quality of work and use of class time that #h is
properly engaged in the learning process.
9=To improve, whenever possible visit art galleries which will provide a source of
inspiration from which to draw.
10=To improve, needs to ensure that each tasks has a finished quality which
requires a sustained effort, and completed preparation work.
11=To improve, needs to continue with practising drawing from observation of
objects.
12=#N needs to take more time over tasks to ensure a higher level of control and
more polished final pieces.
13=To improve, should practice again the exercises in the elements of drawing in #h
own time; with particular attention to detail and shading. Visiting art galleries
is also of great benefit as art appreciation becomes increasingly more important
throughout the art program.
14=However, in order to develop further, an attempt to foster better working habits
such as improved application, time-management and organisation are important. #N is
a very capable student who has a lot more to offer if #e puts #h mind to it.
15=To improve, needs to think of more complex ideas, show greater attention to
details and to complete all tasks to a finished quality.
16=To improve, should practise achieving work with some finer details and clearer
sense of design.
17=To improve, and as an extension task, should further research the context of an
art project, including developing an awareness of other artists' works that relate
to the theme.

COMMENTS: Y10 - Jan reports 2018

1=#N has made excellent progress with a range of skills, most recently with the
ceramic project. #E has completed all the tasks to a consistently high standard,
with very strong evidence of drawing skills in the still-life prep sheet. To
improve, ought to discover examples by other artists that relate to #h work in
order to further #h knowledge of Art in general and to gain extra inspiration.
2=#N has made good progress with a range of skills, most recently with the ceramic
project. #E has completed all the tasks to a good standard, with strong evidence of
experimentation and exploration of art media for the still-life prep sheet.
3=#N has made some progress with a range of skills, most recently with the ceramic
project. #E has completed most of the tasks to a reasonable standard, with some
good experiments in the still-life prep sheet. To improve, needs to practise, more
regularly, many of the basic drawing skills; this needs to be done in addition to
lesson time; in #h own time, either at home or come into the art department at
lunchtimes where more support can be offered; such effort would result in more
rapid progress.
4=To improve, ought to revisit some of the exercises on the formal elements and
practise achieving fine and accurate detail in drawing, with the knowledge that #e
can replace some of the still-life "try-outs" on the prep sheet with new and better
ones (which will inevitably raise #h eventual grade).

1=#N has made excellent progress with a range of skills, most recently with
collagraph printmaking. #E has completed all the tasks to a consistently high
standard, with very strong evidence of drawing skills in the on going still-life
unit as well as the group sculpture project. To improve, #N ought to discover
examples by other artists that relate to #h work in order to further #h knowledge
of Art in general and to gain extra inspiration.

COMMENTS: Y10 - March 2022

1=#N has made excellent progress in drawing, collage, mixed media and most
recently, ceramics. #E has completed all the tasks to a high standard, with strong
evidence of creativity, experimentation and exploration of media.
2=#N has worked hard on developing #h technical skill and takes constructive
criticism in a positive light.
3=#N collaborated well in the group ceramics project, helping to produce a large
scale, well concieved and constructed stoneware clay piece.
4=The collaborative ceramics project saw #N using #h skills and creativity for the
good of the group - helping them produce one of the most successful pieces based on
the theme of sustainable cities.
5=At the time of writing, #N is planning and carving an ambitous reduction lino
print as part of the printmaking unit.
6=The technical skills that #N is aquiring will create a pool from which #e will
draw when the student led art making (S.L.A.M) begins towards the end of the summer
term. #E will need to concieve, develop and realise an artwork of #h own - in the
media & dimension of #h choosing.
7=To improve, #N should practise, more regularly, observation drawing. This needs
to be done in addition to lesson time. #N should also visit art galleries and read
art journals to broaden #h appreciation and knowledge of artists and art history as
students will be required to demonstrate this influence in their art portfolio and
own artmaking.

COMMENTS: Y11 - march 2022

1=Success in art this year relied greatly on the students ability to autonomously
explore and develop an idea for an artwork, culminating in a resolved final
outcome.
2=#N was very able to rise to this challenge and has produced work of an excellent
level. The level of independence and self drive has been impressive to see at this
age.
3=The Y11 course has allowed #N to freely engage with #h creativity and create art
using traditional techniques, cultivating an appreciation for the creative arts.
4=#N's ability to experiment and explore a chosen theme in a range of media shows a
high appreciation of the creative process.
5=#N needed frequent support with technique and generation of ideas, but was able
to produce a good final outcome at the end of last term.
6=#E is now working towards completing a resolved final artwork before the end of
the course. Time is tight and a high level of commitment to the task will be needed
to achieve a good result.
7=The Y11 course has allowed #N to develop as an artist and I am confident that the
IB art course will suit #h creative drive perfectly.
8=It has been an absolute pleasure to witness #N develop as an artist and creative
thinker, and I am hopeful that #e will continue to engage in visual art by visiting
galleries and keeping a sketchbook for years to come!
9=We hope to exhibit resolved work at the end of the year.

COMMENTS: Y12- IB - Jan 2018

1=#N has made an excellent start to the IB Art course. #N has been courageous to
explore and experiment with new and challenging media, such as the dynamic work
produced with the visiting artist, Bernard Garo. #H is thoroughly committed to
keeping up with deadlines and submitting process portfolio screens (sketchbook
pages) to the best of ability.
2=We have been impressed by the way in which #e has managed the challenging medium
of oil paint and the development of skills in painting is very evident. #N should
feel encouraged and confident about the progress #e has made so far and we
anticipate equal success in the forthcoming ceramics project.
3=To improve, could read more around the subject; gaining a greater awareness of
contemporary artists; keeping notes and making sketches in the mini-notebook that
has been provided.
4=#N has made a very good start to the IB Art course. #N has been courageous to

5=#N is committed to keeping up with deadlines and submitting process portfolio
screens (sketchbook pages) to the best of #h ability. We have been impressed by the
way in which #e has managed three-dimensional elements and the development of
skills with the maquettes for ceramic sculpture.

we anticipate equal success in the forthcoming ceramics unit. To improve, could
read more around the subject; gaining a greater awareness of contemporary artists;
keeping notes and making sketches in the mini-notebook that has been provided.
7=The key for #N to improve lies in #h process journal work. #N does many pages but
often #e skims over the surface of the investigation. #E needs to go deeper, use a
wider range of resources, include a critical analysis, explore the context and
ideas behind a work to reveal why it is significant or what was its function.
8=#N needs to see and engage with art more; #e should visit galleries, read art
magazines and books from the library. This deeper level of research and engagement
with art will then help #m to be a more critical thinker and develop significant
ideas for #h own art making.
9=#H's process pages have improved significantly. #E now understands clearly the
expectations and presented an outstanding selection of pages for #h final grade.
10=As #e continues in the class I encourage #h to consider new ways to present #h
process pages so that they have more flow and are more easily read.
11=In #h IWB #e does need to go back through #h book and make #h selected pages
stronger responding to the feedback given.

key skills we aim to develop over the course.

the Collograph unit.
3=We were also impressed by the way in which #e managed the also new and difficult
medium of oil paint and the development of skills in painting is very evident. #N
should feel encouraged and confident about the progress #e has made so far and we
anticipate equal success in the forthcoming ceramics project, which will produce a
third potential final outcome for the exhibition component worth 40% of the final
assessment.
4=#N should feel encouraged by the progress #e has made so far and we anticipate
the same, if not higher, level of achievement in the current ceramics unit, which
will produce a third potential final for the exhibition component worth 40% of the
final assessment grade.
5=#N's process pages have been constructed with careful consideration of the
criteria, and with each submission, we see that #e is better able to analyse,
evaluate and demonstrate concepts through language and appropriate visuals. This
places #N in a strong position as the PP pages are worth 40% of the final grade.
6=#H's process pages have improved significantly. #E now understands clearly the
expectations with regard to the criteria, and presented a very good page recently
for the Collograph unit.
7=#N needs to dedicate much more time to #h process pages work, which are also
worth 40% of the final assessment. #N's pages can often skim over the surface of
the investigation, and not respond to the criteria. #E needs to go deeper, use a
wider range of resources, include more critical analysis, explore the context and
ideas behind a work to reveal why it is significant to #h own explorations in art
making.
8=Whenever time allows, #e should go back through #h book and make selected process
pages stronger by responding to the feedback given.
9=To further benefit #N's chances of success, #e needs to see and engage with real
artworks more; #e should visit galleries in order to gain a greater awareness of
contemporary art, read art magazines and books from the library, keeping notes and
making sketches in the mini notebook provided. This deeper level of research and
engagement with art will then help #m to be a more critical thinker and develop
meaningful ideas for #h own art making.
10=We will soon be introducing the Comparative Study unit which requires the
students to compare and analyse 2-3 artworks from a diverse background. The wider
the range of art #N has been engaging with, the greater chance #e has at success in
this component which is worth 20%.
11=Overall, an excellent year so far in IB Art higher.
12=Overall, a good year so far, with many more chances to grow and develop
technically and conceptually as an artist.
13=Overall, a fair start, with more focus and commitment, progress will start to
soar!

4=#N has completed all work to a good standard. #H self portrait demonstrated sound
understanding of the proportions of the face and good shading skills. The self
directed mixed media work was quite well planned, demonstrating commitment to the
task.
5=This has been an encouraging start to the year 9 art program. To improve,
whenever possible visit art galleries which will provide a pool of inspiration from
which to draw.
6=#N has not yet demonstrated full commitment to the tasks and, whilst the idea was
good, did not complete a fully resolved mixed media final piece. I am hopeful that
#e will have a more positive attitude towards art making and planning next
semester.
