EXAM:

Language ability (See dott. Teresa Carchedi for more info.):

- GET4: 60 multiple choice questions on grammar and lexis (a ‘pass’ is necessary to take
“Watching the English and the “written”)
- “Watching the English” -  written essay. 500 words

Written (not for NFs: oral on highlighted material)

- Short answer exam: In general the questions will ask for a definition or an example of the
above points. Alternatively you may be asked to categorise or classify an example extract.
- Tourism Cloze test. 15-20 multiple choice terms all related to classic tourism language. The
text will be describing or promoting Puglia.

Oral presentation

- Tourist guide: Length: 10-15 mins. In general should be related to Puglia. You can bring in
visual aids, but no power point presentation.

The oral presentation focusses on the ability to.

1. present the complexity of (a sight, building, sculpture, painting, tradition, event, food) using
both technical terms and simpler explanations understandable by an international audience.

2. interest the audience and motivate them to (visit the sight, take part in the event, prepare the
food, …). This means a presentation which is NOT written, and certainly not written to be read. So,
the presentation should NOT be a Wikipedia account, but be personalized, and made interesting
to the particular audience listening to you. Remember the audience is composed of international
tourists who have good English, but do not understand Italian!

3. Answer questions related to your presentation. Remember, you do not need to be an expert on
everything. The exam commission will be interested in your ability to make the tourist satisfied
with the tour as a whole. This is not an exam of your knowledge, but of your ability to
communicate.

Portfolio

The Portfolio is a summary of the hours spent outside of the classroom, and should account for
the 19 hours per university credit of “esercitazione individuale”. This will include lettore hours,
