To Whom it May Concern:

I am pleased to recommend Audrey Elizabeth Hurt for employment or educational opportunities.

Audrey was a student in my English Language Arts classes from the Spring of 2019 through the
Autumn of 2022. During this time, Audrey completed English Language Arts II, III, and Creative
Writing. Throughout these courses, I’ve had the pleasure of observing this determined student
grow in both academic and personal pursuits. She is an insightful, genuine, and intelligent
individual whom I respect greatly.

As a student, Audrey is thoughtful and diligent. She likes to make a plan before she begins, and
then she works methodically through her task-set. She enjoys the creative process and is
precise in her writing. Audrey excels when she finds that personal connection between the
classroom work and her own observations.

Audrey is a natural leader when it comes to group discussions, and she does not shy away from
sharing her opinion, yet she does so with grace and poise. In group activities, I could count on
Audrey to take an active role, to keep the group’s momentum going, and to be fair towards the
other students. Her attitude towards her peers and teachers is polite, and she treats others with
the respect she wishes to receive. Even when she disagrees with someone, she will give them
the benefit of the doubt, listen to their point of view, and while she may not change her own
opinion, she seeks to understand why others believe and act the way they do. In addition, she is
a clear communicator, unafraid to ask questions for clarification or pose an idea. She knows
when to observe and when to make a statement. Audrey is exactly the kind of person you want
on your team.

During her time in my class, Audrey engaged in so many projects that I could not recount them
all. Her work was so consistently high, that, when it came to display work for certain events like
Parent-Teacher Night or a specific occasion, I had to be mindful not to display too many of
Audrey’s pieces - so varied and excellent was her work. Poetry? She’s on it. Fiction? Chef’s kiss.
Research, persuasion, analysis? Interview with a chicken? Superb. Creative alternative projects
like making our chicken website? Not only easy to navigate, but tastefully peppered with chicken
puns. I could always count on Audrey to have an assignment that would be insightful, interesting
and polished. To discuss just one assignment that stands out would be difficult. She excels in all
things academic - discussion, writing, collaborating, working autonomously, the arts, and the
sciences. I can only highlight how capable this young woman is.

If there is one challenge she faces, it is in the antagonist of perfectionism. She strives to do well
and she achieves excellence. There are times she must make the decision - is this worth my
time and attention? As a perfectionist, it is difficult for her to answer that question with a negative
response. In my class, I have observed her struggle with and improve her ability to address this
question and exercise the selective process of expending her energy where it will serve her best,
and not necessarily on pursuing perfection in every subject and on every task.

In closing, Audrey is intelligent, talented, self-aware, and compassionate. As this student

continues to mature, I have no doubts that she will succeed in her future educational pursuits
and in the workforce. I will always remember this young woman for her sincerity and wisdom.
She was truly a pleasure to teach, and it is with delight that I recommend Audrey Hurt for any
academic or employment opportunities.

Sincerely,
